This is initially an easy one to answer. It's your story so it's down to you.

However going a bit more in depth, what I try to do is ask myself one question. In the TES universe, is it possible? I myself don't follow lore all that well. My story takes place in Morrowind Cyrodiil and Skyrim so all the events are happening at the same time. Therefore there hasn't been an Argonian invasion in Morrowind.

Take Winterhold. In my story there's a black smithy and a stable.

Ultimately it is down to you as to how far you go. By asking is it possible then you are far less likely to alienate your readers.

I hope that helps. If you have any questions then please don't hesitate to ask.

Thank, Sotek! That really helps! I myself don't follow lore all that much ('til it comes to friends who think they know more) and it's reassuring to know that there are more people like me. P.S. I read some of your Union of The Wolf story, and who it's dedicated to. Hope your wife is pulling through and staying strong!

How much you alter the lore may affect who gets drawn to your work. I, for one, don't mind alterations to the lore, but only if they make sense and EXPAND on what already exists. In that sense, I'm a lore buff. Anything that deviates too far is a turn off for me. That said, don't cater your story to others' expectations. Write what's on your heart. That's the best thing you can do. :) And thank you, by the way, for the kind words on DOTE. *bows graciously*

Thanks! Like I said before it is nice to be "surrounded" by people like me! I can't wait to get started on writing!

If you ever want someone to workshop your writing, let me know. I'll offer to give feedback.

    Thanks!

P.S. When are you gonna join Bethesda and start writing for them? you can help them with their opening quests; they always disappoint me...

    When? In my dreams perhaps...

I would seriously post it chapter by chapter. If either of Okan, Lissette, Idesto or myself post our stories in one go we'll probably crash the site.  The other benefit is feedback. There are a fair few of us who now give our opinions and point out errors so having chapters makes it easier to rework them.

Also as you progress with your writing you will develop as a writer. This can clearly be seen with the core members of Tamriel Tales. Okan himself has recently posted a discussion showing how he has developed as a writer and I know my own works have improved significantly. Having various chapters makes it easier to re visit your story and update it.

    The real crux is this.

How big should your chapters be...

There is no answer to this... Lissette likes to post books. My interpretation with Okan is that he has a clear set path with his work. Myself, I like to have a natural start and ending with my chapters. Some are over 3000 words and others are just 500. It all depends on who is doing what character wise. I'm just the guy who follows them around and takes notes.

It's a case of what you think best overall.

Speak for yourself, Sotek. I'm posting new chapters barely as I finish them.

You can approach posting in many different ways, Jacob. One way that I do it is to utilize the help of a beta reader, another site member who reads my chapters before I post them and gives feedback/suggestions.

When you say your story is a lot longer than most of the long stories on this site, what do you mean? How long is your story? Do you have a word count?

    They are not books
