Hmm, so you haven't written anything yet? When I first started I had several chapters written ahead of time. I guess it really depends how much you want to edit and revise before you release your work.

I'm a fan of epic tales as well. I think my blog might be evidence of this.

Well, if you want no one to be able to read it...

Is there a peer review system here?  I've written a chapter and I'd like to have it critiqued before I post it, but the Blog and Story Editing Service has been inactive for over a year, so I'm not sure it's the best place to look.

You could try finding someone who'd be willing to be your beta reader. AKA, someone who reads your chapters before you release them to give feedback.

I'll offer to help you myself, but... I'm kind of a hard guy when it comes to critiques. Just a fair warning.

If you're willing to critique my work, I'll gladly let you.  This is my first endeavor at story writing and I need a very critical eye.

So for this story I'm trying to write a few of my characters are Legion battle mages but for a battle scene the seem a bit to powerful, any advice on how to weaken them a bit ? I'm thinking of restricting them to 3 magic schools but I'm not to sure

    Hello Mitch

There's a few ways I handle OP chars as my story has a few of them.

Firstly the battlemages are OP with magic so to counter that you could make them vulnerable to close combat. Maybe a few enemies close in the ranks. This would add some balance.

Secondly maybe increasing the defence of a few of the enemies. They could be equipped with magic resistance so the Mages aren't that potent against them.

Thirdly limit the magic choices like you suggested.

Maybe they are potent but their mana is limited. Hard hitters but then their firepower drops to sporatic attacks at best.

Terrain could also play a major part. Fireballs need a line of sight. thick woodland would hamper the range but increase the fear factor as trees catch fire.

Ultimatly they can be as op or as weak as you want. If you have say three imperial Battlemages then maybe two are adept. They are still learning from the master mage.
