Yup...what Zonnonn said. Demonhunter is amazing!

It's really one of the classics, the classic some would say. And to think snakes posted it 6 months after Skyrim was released... mental.

@ Elyrius:  First I have to second everything dallan007 and Zonnonn have already said, those are great tips for creating and engaging and satisfying character.  The one thing I would add, and use myself, is to not focus on one single character but instead actively play several.  Currently I'm running three seperate characters as I hunt down all the trophies in Skyrim SE, they are your basic triumvirate of builds (mage, warrior, thief) and each is designed to tackle different part of the game (mage for College/Main Quest/Dragonborn, warrior for Civil War/Companions/Dawnguard, Thief for Thieves Guild/Dark Brotherhood).  So instead of a single character who does everything I have multiple characters with personal motivations to only do part of the game.  This way when one playstyle starts to feel stale I can easily switch to a different character and start progressing their story instead.

Elyrius said: This is really vague, but I'm kinda frustrated, I need a build that can get me back into the game, I'm in this loop at the minute of restarting and restarting, I'm just boring myself, I like builds that can do most quests in the game. I'm not a big fan of crafting (especially alchemy), I also am not very good at playing as vamps due to the silly regen stuff. I like most of the combat styles, but would love to try something new. I've played a hella lot of builds, unfortunately a lot of them didn't make it far like I've said. Something likely to survive up to level 50 at least with myself would be great, I've never got a build to that level and I've owned Skyrim since launch! Mods aren't really an option for me.

Just as the others said, RP does wonders. When I first got Skyrim I played as a warrior, a thief, a mage, then did warrior again and was pretty much done with Skyrim. Then I found this site and RP, and things changed significantly for me ;D

But I also understand the importance of finding mechanics/concepts that are new to you as well. With that in mind, might I suggest:

The Vancian Wizard--only uses greater powers, as a type of spellbook. This means anything in a dungeon delve that you use on the little guys is something you won't have at your disposal against bosses at the end. It's a a pretty boss concept, and completey changes the way you play the game.

The Hedge Mage--sort of the same concept, except you can only use spells from spellbooks you find adventuring. No College and no merchants.

The Transient Sorcerer--with the exception of Alteration, this build uses Novice level spells exclusively. It's a run-n-gun mage with some really cool special moves (which is a bit odd considering you are using mostly Novice spells). I played this one... twice.

It's morning, so my brain won't let me push past mage builds right now. Perhaps I'll come up with other genres during lunch xD

Thanks for the great tips, especially about RP, I think thats the problem, I'm just not invested in the characters I'm making. I've just crapped it at how many trophies off my platinum anyway..  On my bucket list is to play Dawnguard on Dawnguard side (never done before), experience the Dragonborn DLC again (only ever done once). My trophies required at the minute is a bit rediculous..

I might give up on that part (trophies) lol, seems kinda grindy looking at it.. There's so much of the game I haven't experienced due to this restarting, it's been going on a long time lol. I have no idea what character style I want to play. Perhaps a mixture of magic and melee would be best to ensure I get the 'best of both worlds'?

Hey all. Trying to get into Skyrim and want a good build to start off with. Can somebody name drop some really popular high quality builds & character builders?

The Demonhunter is a paladin-archer of sorts. It's the most liked build on the site and No Snakes is very talented.

For power gaming, Mason's Sorceror is the Enchanting gold standard, and his Bronze Sentinel is the Smithing gold standard. In fact basically all his builds are really impressive in combat, but these two are really two of the strongest fighters on the site.

Aside from these, you can hop by the Character Build Archives and search with the Legendary, Mythic and Exemplar tags. Those are classically popular builds with a lot of "likes". You can also flip through this thread for more recommendations.

I'm not as up-to-date on current builders, but Lissette has a pretty impressive array of builds and I'm pretty sure I remember being impressed by Vargr's and ShinJin's work.

I've not provided links, but if you search with the bar on the top left you should get there quickly.

I'm pretty sure this is the right place to ask this. I'm looking for a build, if I remember correctly it was by Ponty but I can't remember the name for the life of me. It involved the bound bow and a high elf and I think something to do with the Adamantine Tower. Thanks if anyone can recall for me.

I think you're thinking of The Arcane Marksman.

It's similar, but no this isn't what I was thinking of. If I remember right the character wore the Dunmer Outfit and had 100% spell absorb. Thank you anyway.
