I'm fully open to ideas about quests. But in the end of the Aetherium questline you already get the Aetherium stuff. And the Nirnroot quest is just one quest. Does that really deserve skills?

Those were just thoughts.  The Aetherium questline ends with you smithing those items, so smithing sort of makes sense.  And the Nirnroot quest starts in an alchemist's study and requires quite a bit of hunting to complete it, so it might perk an interest in pursuing alchemy in a character.  Again, they were just some suggestions that came to mind.

    Well, it does make sense.

    The Confrontation

Ostium knocked on the door and was ushered in by Falion. Falion offered him a seat and sat down himself.

"I know what you are, Bloodsucker.".

"Please Dont jump to any conclusions Sir, I was turned against my will. But I restricted myself to only feed on bandits.".

"I see, do you know anything about youre new abilities or body?".

"All I found out up to now was that after I drink blood I dont feel any different from when I was human. Also I can see in the Dark and when I dont feed for a while my thirst for blood turns me into a beast.".

Falion explained everything he knew about vampires to Ostium.

"You dont have to deal with this you know, I can cure you but it will condem another soul.".

Ostium got up and opened the door. "I am not going to condem someone else for my own problems. Thank you Falion, you helped me alot.".

Ostium shut the door and went on his way to Winterhold.

"He will come back, once he experiences the last stage. I am sure about it.".

I would say you only get bonuses for big quests that dont really give you something themself like restoring the Tree in Whiterun that Thorien already listed. The Sinderion quest already gives you a great bonus with the double potion chance. Ostium will make that quest ASAP if I find a good way to write it in. ^^

A thing I really like about Ostium is how polite he is. A very rare trait, as I often see characters who open doors with a kick and treat everyone with a familiarity that defies all common sense (and still say that the Thalmor act like assholes, hehe).

Thanks, It only makes sense to me ^^. He had training in proper behavior and speech ^^. And I dont like to be rude :D.

Many people who had such training are often very rude nonetheless. So it's a pleasant exception.

    Dangerous Roads

Ostium left Morthal as the night swallowed up the Sun. He looked on his map and decided to cut through Dawnstar and then keep on going to Winterhold. He wandered the road letting everything Falion told him sink in. He was snapped out of his thoughts by the sounds of a fight. Ostium quickly dashed off the road and into the bushes.

Flames lighted up the night as Ostium sneaked closer to get a better look of the situation. He saw two bandits catching their breath while standing over the body of a robed person.

"This is my chance, I have to move fast .".

Ostium pulled out two poison vials and prepared a pair of arrows. He decided to take out the one with the shield first. The arrow cut through the air and pierced the bandits back dropping him to his knees. Ostium quickly ducked behind a tree as the second bandit approached.

"That warhammer looks troublesome, I better try to kill him without being noticed .".

The second arrow was let loose and hit the bandits right arm.

"YOU LITTLE WORM I'LL CRUSH YOURE SKULL LIKE AN EGG !".

Ostium , without waisting a moment quickly drew another arrow and fired at the bandit. It hit his knee sending him to the ground. Ostium quickly fired another arrow killing the bandit. He got closer to the first bandit and found a carriage with what looked like two dead mages and some alchemical ingredients inside. He took the ingredients and a Dwarven Dagger he found on one of the mages. He left his Orcish Dagger behind and decided to stay off the road and walk through the bushes.

After a few minutes of travel Ostium suddenly heard weird sounds coming from his left side. He was spotted by an Ice Wraith and took a shot at it which the Wraith easily avoided. Ostium knew he was out of his league and started booking it down the road followed by the Wraith. He turned his head arround only to see the Wraith right next to his face. Ostium rummaged through his bag looking for an Invisibility Potion. He found the potion but another look back eased his mind. The Wraith had stopped following him. He let out a drawn out sigh and kept going.

He stumbled upon what looked like a giant burial ground.

"What in the world would need a grave this big? Probably some rich Asshole feeling more important than he really is.".

Ostium arrived in Dawnstar near Midnight and decided to get some sleep in the Inn.

    Fatal Mistake

Ostium woke up refreshed and got out of bed, he could feel his thirst for blood slowly creeping up. He put on his hood and went to see the Smith. Wanting more stopping power Ostium decided to switch out his Steel Arrows for Dwarven Arrows. He visited the alchemy store of the town and brewed a few basic poisons. He also bought a few recepies from the owner and went on his way. He decided to walk along the Shore to avoid bandits and then follow a small path up to Winterhold.

After he got out of sight from the town Ostium put on his Hooded Wooden Mask to protect himself from the Sun. A few minutes of walking along the Shore Ostium stumbled upon a rather peculiar scene.

(Sorry for the bad quality but I had no other way to take a picture and there arent any good ones online^^)

It was a tent. Inside were two bedrolls, wine and goblets, an Amulet of Mara, some sweet baked goods and a lot of flowers strewn all over the place. Ostium could imagine what this was and didnt even try to pick something up not wanting to accidently touch questionable things. He left the tent and went on further down the Shore.

It was quiet and Ostium got to the path leading to Winterhold easily. He meet a strange fellow out in the frozen wasteland. He called himself Talsgar and claimed to be a wandering bard. Intrigued Ostium asked for a song and payed the bard. After the song finished Ostium handed the man a Frost Resistance potion and went on his way.

Ostium found himself in a canyon between two giant icebergs. He spooted a Bear infront of him and jumped up a rock to get a height advantage. He poisoned his Arrow and shot the bear. The bear became enraged and swung at Ostiums feet barely missing him. Ostium planted another arrow into the beast just as it jumped up clawing at Ostiums leg which led to him falling of the rock he landed badly on his bag with a loud shattering sound. The bear still alive started limping towards Ostium. Ostium rolled on his back anf started crawling backwards while fumbling inside his bag. The bear let out a roar and fell over dead.

A sharp burning pain spread across the left hand Ostium had im his bag. He quickly looked down only to see a big hole in his bag. He quickly pulled pulled out his Arm and took the Antidote off his belt. He poured the Antidote over his steaming hand. Ostium tried ripped of his bag and turned it over dropping everything in it to the ground. A thick purple substance started dripping out of his bag making a sharp sound. To his delight an intact health potion tumbled out of his bag which he grabbed as fast as he could pulling out the cork with his teeth and poured it over his hand. He dropped the vial and layed down on his back.

The Pain was gone, but he couldnt move his left pointer and middle finger. He dreaded to look down on his hand. Ostium started to cry when he saw the bones of his Fingers exposed and void of flesh.

I read the first page of this thread the day I went on holiday for a week or so. I have the mod for alternative starts, so I'm going to jump in and pick random. This week I've had lots of stories in my head using the start locations I've heard of. Am feeling very excited. Hope it's not Proudspire.

edit I had in my head that Proudspire was one of the Alternative Starts, but maybe it was another mod.

Ugh, what an unfortunate misadventure. How is it they say? When it's not one it's another?
