The staff is a destruction staff.

The drain magicka effect is alteration.

The drain health effect is restoration.

I'm not really sure how the charges work in regards to what effect governs it. You might need any one, a combination of two or all three to see any effect.

Thanks Nikolaj! I assume magicka absorption stays the same regardless of the difficulty, correct?

You don't actually absorb magicka, it's just magicka (and health) damage.

I'd assume so, but I'd have to test it to be sure. But I'm going to assume that the game only alters health specific damage.

So it's actually two effects, damage magicka and restore magicka?

Ah so at least the extra 100% the stone initially has will push it over the top of what Mason's build can achieve, even if you can't double that amount further by then advancing the stone. Pretty sure that weakness alone coupled with a weakness potion will already be powerful enough to demolish most things.

This build's too cool. Which do you personally prefer of your two awesome Mages though, Adrik: this or the Telvanni?

No, it doesn't restore your magicka. It just damages magicka.

Wait a minute are you sure? It was certainly restoring mine and both the wiki and UESP say so...

"When the Staff of Magnus is casted at a creature or person, the staff won't absorb magicka or health." ~UESP. You probably have a mod installed.

Hmm... interesting, I don't have the mods installed that affect the staff (I actually run only 8 of them now and I'm sure that they doesn't affect it ). I probably confused something. Bethesda at their best! In the discussion on UESP page it says that there is not even an attempt made to restore caster's magicka or health based on Creation Kit data
