So, it's been months since I last played Skyrim and I was messing around with some mod combos and want to play with an Altmer. I 've played Altmers before since they are my favorite race but coming back after such a long time I kinda feel out of place playing an Altmer in Skyrim and becoming Dragonborn (I know thw whole DB - Akatosh thing). My character will be a poor sod raised in Cyrodiil and after experiencing years of ridicule and failure he will go to Skyrim in order to turn a new leaf, study at the college of Winterhold and temper himself, backstory has a lot more but it's not important to mention them here.

Edit: He is the type that has a lot of goodwill so he will help people etc you know the friendly cool guy neighborhood sorcerer. This trait might be one of the things making me feel uncomfortable since there is some hate in Skyrim for elves and he won't be that welcome in most places also being a wizard on top of that and all this leads to some uncomfortable feeling while playing. :P

So coming to the matter at hand I really feel out of place and can't, let's say integrate my character in the flow of Skyrim any ideas why and how can I solve this issue? :P

I'm gonna go in a different direction to Delta and Thorien, just because they've already covered what I was gonna say very well.

Have you thought about intentionally messing up, as a more forceful way for him to climatise to his surroundings? For example, perhaps he came from a village, or a section of a city, where they let themsevles into each others houses just because they're so friendly, but when he does this in Skyrim he gets arrested. Or maybe his wizardly mentor taught him to converse the terms of surrender with his opponent mage before combat, resulting in him getting pasted very quickly.

Basically there's a documentary about some lads who live in the Australian outback, and are brought into big cities for the first time. That. Sorry if this wasn't the answer you were looking for, thought I'd go a little quirky as Delta and Thorien have already answered so well.

Oh an interesting approach, I could go and visit a house to make friends but they will say "You need to leave" and while explaining and trying to make friends they will call the guards which wouldn't make any sense to this guy.

He would be dissapointed after that though. #ForeverAlone

I was thinking of playing Skyrim as a merchant sim, but I’m not sure how fun that’d be. I figured that if I turn my merchant into a bard, Illusion spells could be RP’d as bardic songs, but there doesn’t seem to be much combat ability with just Pacify. I could add Frenzy, but my character isn’t evil.

You could get a Bodyguard. also the Black Book: Untold Legends gives you conjurable drum that buffs ^^ description: "Summons a spectral drum that plays for 300 seconds, improving Stamina Regen for you and nearby allies."

When activated, a floating spectral drum is summoned that emits musical notes.

You could use Pacify Rally and Fear alongside Muffle and Invisibility. Maybe throw in som restoration with heals and turn undead ^^

@mitch blatt - I 'm not sure if you 're using mods but Ordinator can open a lot of possibilities for many builds and playstyles along with a multiple follower mod. In this case I would suggest using a follower mod to get more than one follower (inigo custom follower is cool and has the best dialogue I think), Ordinator - Imperious races - Andromeda standing stones and maybe mods that add loot / things and economy mods like trade & barter or something like that.

If you don't use mods you can make your character a craftsman and merchant. You can hire a bodyguard as Vezrabuto said and equip him with whatever you choose your craft is blacksmithing or enchanting.

Magic is not good nor evil it's just magic but will be ragerded as such by the way you use it in accordance with say the laws or people's perception and the second is usually not above the laws so as long as you don't break the law or kill innocents and such it wouldn't be so bad to use frenzy / fear spells etc on those who do such a thing.

As far as Skyrim goes I 'm using iHud mod so it is hiding the compass when I don't need it but I do not disable it (have it activable to go on and off with a key) there are cases here and there that I happen to use it. I see it as having a quick look on a marked location on my map. :P

You should be ok using only the map. What I did once is disable healthbars (with iHud again) it was interesting playing without enemy healthbars. I 'm about to start a playthrough right now which got delayed for like 3 days a hardcore one and was thinking if I should disable healthbars as well.

i make them transparent. just enough so if i dont focus on it my mind will just block them out but i can still see it if i need to. I rely on seeing my Mana since i play support and strategic Spell placement :D
