It would be logical to assume that a merchant wants to become as rich as possible. Or at least rich enough to never have to work till the end of his days so he can sit on the balcony of his big rich manor and watch his grandkids play in the yard. Or maybe he wants to become like Maven Black-Briar, very rich and more influencial than even the Jarl?

The work of a blacksmith takes much time and energy, so it does make sense if one prefers focusing on the smithing and lets someone else sell her wares. Also it is possible that while being a good blacksmith, she is not a very good merchant.

Maybe something like this but you keep it yourself? Originally, the term masterpiece referred to a piece of work produced by an apprentice or journeyman aspiring to become a master craftsman in the old European guild system. His fitness to qualify for guild membership was judged partly by the masterpiece, and if he was successful, the piece was retained by the guild.

In addition my Main sells fish he breeds at his house and sells self enchanted equip to stores. So having other people sell his wares in a shop makes sense for a smith.

But that would only make sense for a single thing or a few different items. If you make 10 nearly identical swords, it would be weird if you keep them all. It can be also that one simply makes things for one's own use, but then that doesn't count as a profession. I mean, if a person knows how to work metal, it doesn't make him a blacksmith. Same as a person who knows how to brew potions isn't necessarily an alchemist. A skill doesn't count as a job.

That's what I meant too. My main also sells things he enchants to a merchant, and that isn't even his profession.

My dude did it because he lost all his money in Helgen and needed some coin to buy new things and a horse. He doesn't do it on the regular basis though, he is a Justiciar who just happens to know how to enchant.

My other dude (also from Morthal btw) hunts and then sells meat and furs to a merchant. Which sort of makes him a hunter. And another one is a blacksmith, she works at the forge in Markarth every day. She then sells all what she made to Ghorza, it can be counted as though she gets her salary.

So, it's been months since I last played Skyrim and I was messing around with some mod combos and want to play with an Altmer. I 've played Altmers before since they are my favorite race but coming back after such a long time I kinda feel out of place playing an Altmer in Skyrim and becoming Dragonborn (I know thw whole DB - Akatosh thing). My character will be a poor sod raised in Cyrodiil and after experiencing years of ridicule and failure he will go to Skyrim in order to turn a new leaf, study at the college of Winterhold and temper himself, backstory has a lot more but it's not important to mention them here.

Edit: He is the type that has a lot of goodwill so he will help people etc you know the friendly cool guy neighborhood sorcerer. This trait might be one of the things making me feel uncomfortable since there is some hate in Skyrim for elves and he won't be that welcome in most places also being a wizard on top of that and all this leads to some uncomfortable feeling while playing. :P

So coming to the matter at hand I really feel out of place and can't, let's say integrate my character in the flow of Skyrim any ideas why and how can I solve this issue? :P

I mean the 'Go with whatever you want' works for me but there is this exercise I use from time to time. Ask yourself:

    - Sex/Age

    - Unusual Job

    - Darkest fears

    - Dreams

Imo, this has a potential for a very nice and emotional story. Determine for yourself, what is your Altmer's general worldview, his opinion on gods, on people, his goals. Is he a mer of strict principle or tends to drift with the flow? Is he driven by emotion or follows logic and calculated decisions? Does he tend to dismiss and forget the troubles of his past or remembers and learns from them? What would be his reaction to one or another situation he might encounter in Skyrim?

Yeah that is the direction I 'm going at the moment kinda the standard things for roleplay it's just that I 've been a little rusty been away from the game for so long.
