Ok, so with subjective perceptions we enter into Tower territory. People see what they want to see, but the Towers may well be turning those things into reality, and not just subjective reality. That's like the whole Kyne becoming Kynareth sort of thing. We find that fairly easy to swallow - If our Nord prays at a shrine to Kynareth, he may believe it's in fact Kyne answering and bestowing that blessing. It only gets tricky when our Altmer in Skyrim wants to pray to Xarxes and recite the daily devotions (and goddam if there isn't a new book with a prayer to Xarxes that I cannot for the life of me find). Does he pray at a shrine to Arkay? Who grants that blessing, Arkay or Xarxes? He may fervently believe it's Xarxes, but he's on Skyrim soil. From this angle, Xar... who?

I again doubt it's all that literal and simple. If Skyrim had a Tower, what version of reality it would be projecting, Danica's of Heimskr's? Or maybe Elenwen's, after all she is in Skyrim too? Did Kyne really become Kynareth or is it merely the way the Nord see her that has changed? May it be that she is really one and the same and it's just different qualities of her aspect that different people address? Same goes for Arkay and Xarxes. An Altmer won't be praying to Xarxes about the same things an Imperial would be praying to Arkay, they see different sides of the aspect, but the aspect itself is the same. If another Altmer prays to Auri-El at a shrine to Akatosh in Skyrim, he is still praying to Auri-El, the God-King of his people, not to Alduin, even if some Nords believe so (though the particular topic of Auri-El, Akatosh and Alduin in Skyrim (the province, not the game) as I see it, is a subject for a separate discussion).

You know, I quite like that new look? yeah, it can be mocked and be the source of disappointment, but The Crystal Tower not being made out of crystal is refreshing. It's actually named after the Stone of the Tower, Transparent Law:

The Crystal Tower rises over northern Summerset, standing as a beacon and a symbol of everything the Altmer hold dear. Also known as the Crystal-Like-Law, the tower, contrary to the beliefs of those who live beyond our cherished borders, is not made of crystal. No, the tower is named for the crystal that resides at the utmost level, Transparent Law.

Transparent Law lends power and energy to the Crystal Tower, which allows the mystical structure to offer its protections to all of Summerset. The energy radiates from the tower, spreading across the land like an invisible awning to keep the island safe and secure.

Now, these protections are ancient and were set in place long ago when the crystal was imbedded within the tower by the Aldmer who erected it. In truth, for all our knowledge, the Sapiarchs do not fully understand the exact workings of the tower or the crystal. We know that the Aldmer constructed the Crystal Tower to preserve the graves of the early Aldmeri settlers and forever remember the spirit of the Elven people and mark that brief moment in history when we were fully unified.

As for the significance of Transparent Law, I should think that to be self evident. One only has to break down the meaning of the name and all becomes clear. To be transparent is to be easily recognized or detected, to be made manifest, to be open, obvious, and candid. Law, meanwhile, refers to the principles and regulations that govern some specific portion of reality. In this case, the crystal manifests the clear and unequivocal fundamental principles of our Aldmer heritage. Indeed, we suspect that the crystal may even be a fragment of divinity given physical substance.

Obviously, theories concerning the Transparent Law and its significance to the Crystal Tower abound within the College of Sapiarchs. I like to believe that the crystal absorbs the drive for perfection that marks the Altmer and reflects it back, driving away any imperfections that would weaken or endanger the island. Not everyone agrees with me, but I see a correlation between the pride and admiration our people feel for the Crystal Tower and the feeling of security and safety that it, in turn, projects across the land. It is a symbiotic relationship.

Or, it could just be ancient Aldmer magic. Who can really say? ~ The Crystal of the Tower

Well, it does make sence. It's just that this Justiciar is illiterate and knows nothing)))

But this is how it works, it seems, not Kynareth becoming Y'ffre just because it's Alinor.

Subjective reality made total reality? The heart, or soul/blood, of a creature is what matters. The Dovahkiin is a dragon.

    Speaking of reality...

But is it something unreal made reality or rather a thing that was there all along strengthened and enhanced? The Dovahkiin IS a dragon, it's a fact of reality, not a perception.

And isn't Clockwork City actually a sort of a Tower?)))

Once I get home I'll post few of my screenshots with Sotha Sil when he talks about the Crystal Tower, namely would like to discuss the topic of multiverse. Yes, multiverse, this exact same word drops out of Sotha's gear winding mouth.

Okay, so let's look at it then.

Okay, so multiverse. The first thing that comes to my mind are basicaly alternate realities. Reality where Dagoth defeat Nerevarine, where Dwemer didn't disappear and all that stuff. "Nocturnal could become infinite." In a way, it is sort of what Azra Nightwielder attempted to do with Shadow Magic, right? Combine all his possible versions into one, spread his awereness thoughout the infinite versions of himself in the multiverse.

But...then there's this part that makes me sorta wonder.

So invade other Daedric Realms, turn them into Evergloam. Infinite connections, blah blah, yes. Now you all remember how they keep saying that the Crystal Tower has a version in every reality? Well, in order to enter it, you gotta go through Fields of Regret - cause the entrance in Tamriel is blocked - respectively enter through the version of Crystal Tower in Vile's realm.

So with all this, I just can't help but wonder. TES doesn't make anything easy, like ever, so the question of multiverse is sort of boggling my mind. What exactly does multiverse mean in TES? Does it mean alternate realities, like really alternate realities or are they trying to imply that realms of Oblivion are actually another realities? Just look at Molag Balls' Coldharbour. That shit is basicaly apocalyptic Tamriel right? And we know that Daedra can only mimic, so... Yeah.

    What do y'all think?

What did you expect from TES' ultimate shapeshifter? That he gonna stick in a dog's skin for all eternity when he can be anyone and anything? :)

How about this. The Daedric planes are also the Princes themselves. At the same time every Derdic Prince is an et'Ada, a soul. So if every plane of Oblivion is a version of Tamriel, then can we assume that it is a version of Tamriel as the respective Prince perceives it? So let's go further and extend that on the Aedra. Each of them is a plane, a version of Tamriel that reflects thair perception. And here ceruval Phil and myself were just discussing whether the mortals' souls are et'Ada. So let's assume they are and extend the same mechanism onto the mortals. Every soul is a world, a tiny plane, a perception of Tamriel. Or maybe it's not even Tamriel but something beyond? After all, every soul is unique in the endless Dream of Anu, every soul has its own purpose. So, can it be a multiverse of souls, an infinite multitude of perceptions? Does the Crystal Tower exist in every possible way of perception, of all gods and mortals?

Uh, does any of this make any sense or have I embarassed myself completely?)))

I always considered alternate universe as different Kalpas. A variation of the Godhead's Dream, different but still the same, destined to die out when the World-Eater wakes up. Coldharbor could be an interpretation of what Tamriel would look like under Bal's rule. I have yet to visit Coldharbor in ESO, so that's just my thought. If the different realms of Oblivion are different versions of realities, then what does Apocrypha or the Deadlands suppose to resemble? BTW, spoiler alert: Why does Barbas still have Su'narah?

Thorien might be close with her deductive reasoning, and it's quite impressive. We've been talking about the lunar currency and how each soul is destined to get recycled and flow back into the Mundus... with very rare exceptions. Those exceptions are the ones who can achieve a transcendence and realise they are part of the dream while still retaining their own individuality. CHIM we know this as, but the next stage after is Amaranth -  a soul becoming its own universe like another bubble in an infinite expance filled with isolated bubbles. And Pocky's Kalpas can play into that, I suppose, what with transkalpic travelers...

It's funny, though, that this Tower sort of represents space. Not space space, but space as in a dimensional sense. The White Gold exists in every time as we find out from the Psijic quests: We go on to fight versions of the end boss from different walks of what could-have-been her life in this reality.

There's something here I can't bend my mind around quite yet.

Crystal Tower exists in every place.

White Gold exists in every time.

More thought needed, but there's some interesting four-dimensional patterns here.

So I reckon it's every reality in every meaning of that word. Multiverse, then, is as we understand the term. Have you ever seen the quantum suicide thought experiment which is a variation on the famous Schrodinger's Cat idea? For every time the suicide physicist is shot, one version in this reality dies while a new reality is created in which she continues as if she lived. A multiverse can be infinite, and contain an infinite number of possibilities and an infinite number of parallel "you"s. I caught a tweet recently as I gave the subject some thought and research, so will leave that here for anyone interested: How Far Away is your Parallel Self?

I just need to think it through more. Crystal-like-Law is a wacthtower... Was it made in order to observe every possible outcome to every possible occurrence? Molag Bal was mentioned - his plane is part of our reality, yeah? But as with the "many worlds" theory, he'd be subject to it too. There is a version of Tamriel in which the Planemeld succeeded, just as there is a version (or an infinite number of verions) in which it never happened.

I need to go pay more attention the the Augur of the Obscure's dialogue. I'm convinced these Towers are rooted in actual physics, and really weird stuff at that.

Okay, can someone tell me why the comments are sort of screwed here?

Anyway, since you mention CHIM, Phil, there was always one analogy about the alternate realities I was quite fond of. So Aurbis is wheel and when you look at it from the side you see a tower, the I, right? So, the analogy. If you could see alternate realities, what would you see when you look from the side? And infinite line of Towers? Alright, and now if you could see alternate realities and look at the wheel from the front, what would you see? Infinitely wide wheel?

Okay, I have actually no idea where I´m heading with this to be honest. Maybe if the alternate realities are still within that one wheel or if they are their own wheels.

Now, I might remember it wrong, but isn´t the theory of multiverse something about frequancy? Like, you have one Earth but you also have who knows how many other Earths in the exact same time and at the same place, only vibrating at different frequency.

My mind is jumping from one thing to another, but couldn´t we use this frequency thing for the Towers? Namely Crystal and White-Gold?

  • June 26, 2018

Well... Let's take it even further into the realm of Sheogorath))) Honestly, I'm feeling like I'm walking a rope)))

So, the multiverse. For a while, let us forget Wheels and Is and create a simple mathematical model. I hope it won't make anyone's head hurt)))

Let's return to the very beginning, where Anu (the first one) went to sleep and Dreamed the very first Dream. The Dream is a sequence of events that take place in certain circumstances with certain participants, basically a movie.

Now let's envision our multiverse as a coordinate plane, in which one axis is time and  the other is... no, not space, but change actually))) The beginning of our original Dream is the zero point, the start. Every moment of time in the Dream is a point along the time axis. Every possible variation of every detail in the Dream is a point along the change axis. The Dream-movie is replayed again and again, and every time it is replayed is a Kalpa. Every slightest change creates a new timeline, a new C0da. There is infinite number of variations and all of it exists simultaneously in our coordinate plane.

But then let's create an equation. There will be our main coordinates, Time and Change, and some other variables. Those other variables are the Towers. What a Tower is, in essence? It's a manifest, an idea. It's a factor that influences the whole equation.

So for instance we have the Crystal Tower. It exist in every place, says Sotha Sil. If we transfer it to our coordinate plane, it would mean that on every single variation of the Dream there will be the Crystal Tower. That doesn't mean it will be in every point of time though. Indeed, inthe timeline that we know it was destroyed.

If the White-Gold Tower exists in all time, then it would appear like in every variation of the Dream where it was it has always existed, but there are also some variations where it never existed.

And let's make things even crazier and add the theory from my previous post into this picture)) We add another axis and turn our coordinate plane into a coordinate space. This new axis in the axis of aspects, of perceptions. Every single soul in every possible variation of the Dream, in every time is a point on this axis of aspects, and thus a coordinate plane unto itself. These are all the possible parallel "us", and each of them is a potential Dreamer.

So it seems like CHIM is when a certain soul becomes a variable in an equation much like a Tower.

Amaranth, however, is not a variable, it's a complete new multiverse. Only the "zero" of that new coordinate space will be different. But it would be influenced by the "mother" multiverse, so it means that to take control of one such multiverses means to control all the subsequent ones. In this light, what Nocturnal wanted looks rather big))))
