Build Recommendations

My playing habits have changed a lot, does anyone have any builds that are long term? So covers a lot of quest lines but is good to play in short bursts, might end up taking a break until the switch version is out.

Hey Elyrius, have you considered The Gaunt Robe by Borom? https://www.tamrielvault.com/groups/topic/view/group_id/3/topic_id/4839 (On mobile so can't embed). It's end goal is to get Konahriik, so that's pretty long term, but it can definitely be played right away. If not, I'd recommend checking out any of Borom's builds, they all for the bill you're looking for.

That build sounds mad cool. One thing that concerns me is the lack of health, if I play it should I be turning Smilodon off?

Heh, I have to admit that I actually haven't played the build, but given the fact that you'll only have 100 health (or less if Smilodon lowers the minimum, I'm not acquainted with the mod) I'd be prepared to lower the difficulty a bit.

On the question of a build for a new play through.

I am returning to Skyrim after a long hiatus, not just from the game, but from all related content for this dimension. It is my intention to start a play through that I would like to keep going for a long time (count in years). As such I am currently doing some research and planning; in to a small selection of high stability mods, and, here, in to character design.

I am not necessarily looking to purpose a build to adhere to exactly (although it is entirely conceivable that such a build exists that chimes with me), moreover I am looking for recommendations for character builds that fit my criteria (as is specified below) for which I might gain inspiration in adapting and forming my own unique build.

    My Criteria

    • A character that has significant role play potential

    • A character build that provides an overall longer development period

    • A character build that offers some versatility in combat, in such that combat and interactions with combat mechanics do not become boring and/or trivial over a long play through.

    • A character build that can be played on Master from the outset with a view to transitioning to Legendary as the build develops.

    • Use of magic in some form, although not necessarily direct combat effects

    • A play through that will at times make use of followers (EFF will be used) and as such the ability for the character to fall back in to a supportive role. I have not ruled out the possibility of playing a support based class.

    Your suggestions will be appreciated.

    Regards

Two builds for you if you are interested.

The first really fulfills the first two tiers of your requirements very well as it has strong roleplay elements and actually has a long story arc that is followed through gameplay. This can be extended further if you choose to also do Dawnguard, though I didn't include it in his build questlines. It also fulfills the third requirement as it has two forms of combat, both melee and range. I tested the build on Expert, however, I also used Dragon Combat Overhaul and Combat evolved, so probably without difficulty mods, it can handle Master with a crank up to legendary later.

The Outsider - An Altmer channering his inner Ysgramor.

The second build also fulfills all the requirements. Huge roleplay as you are playing as a Dwemer, not as a standard race. It has a shorter development perious, but you can extend the gameplay indefinitely because of the nature of his "mission". He also has a lot of questlines on his plate though he's not quite a dovahkiin. Dawnguard, Dragonborn dlc, Hearthfire, Thieves guild, and many side quests. Now, he does have versatility in combat. Shield + mace, Shield + staff, poison runes, Miraak's staff, spider scrolls, unperked crossbows, and the breath of Nchuak. This build is a tanky little guy and can start on Legendary.

The Exterminator - a Dwemer on a special mission.

I appreciate yout suggestions. I have had a look through both and do like RP elements you have added in to the builds. Particuarly I like that your build 'The Outsider' has its basis in the use of a race/class combination that goes against the grain, so to speak. I may try it as a side build when I am looking for a pure martial combat experience.

I do not think they are exactly what I am looking for however. Perhaps I should have added that I intend to use followers, at times, (will be running EFF) and would like to at points fall in to a supportative role. The use of magic in some form as a mechanism in combat is also desireable although it need not be a direct combat method i.e. use of illusion to buff followers, wards, enchantments. I will edit my original post to reflect that.

One of my favorite follower builds is The Mistress of Balance

It's challenging in that all damage to enemies comes strictly from your follower--at the time, I had never even used a follower (neither for Skyrim nor Oblivion), so the concept just blew me away. A well-crafted build with great roleplay.

If a pure pacifist build isn't quite your cup of tea, Lohzar and I did an event build years back with fantastic roleplay based off an in-game book from Daggerfall. We had a LOT of fun with that one, and it provides you with a few more combat options than an all-out pacifist build: The Legend of Lover's Lament

Hope one of those does the trick ;D

Hi there, I'm looking for a mean (not evil, think Sandor Clegane) warrior version of the Transient Sorcerer. I will be playing as a Khajiit. Thanks!

  • August 17, 2017

Maybe I should elaborate on my request. What I mean by Transient sorcerer is that i want someone that can be very clever with a limited amount of tools. I hate it when my character turns into a walking god, it's as if the game is over at that point. When I brought up Sandor Clegane, I was talking about a character that abstains from magic and archery. I want a vicious fighter that doesn't need to go through health pots to get a defeat a room full of bad guys. As for the Khajiit thing, I was just kind of throwing that one out there, the origin story doesn't really matter to me, I am more interested in good ideas. I want to be encouraged to write a cool fanfiction. I want a new way to play this game. :)
