Character Build: The Regulator

Sorry Teccam I should have been clearer. I'm a an ex-table top rpg gamer so all unarmed characters fall in the "monk" class to me

So I like the idea of a Monk build (by that I meant unarmed) but I prefer this interpretation of it as I enjoy the majority of your skill selection over the more traditional set.

That's not to say James' is bad in any way

Ah, I got you. There are appeals to both versions. I really love James's concept of curses, and was so torn as to whether or not to incorporate his Drain Vitality tactics. I ultimately favored the more streamlined style, which is also why I opted for the constant passive defensive benefits of heavy armor over flesh spells, which require regular application. Though, the Fists of Steel perk was also a big factor in that particular decision.

How did you get the Bound Bow?

From Riften, head in a northerly direction towards the Atronach stone.  From the Atronach stone, proceed west-north-west to Fort Amol. There, in a bucket in the main room you will find the conjure bow spell.

^ Exactly this. And if you do it after training Archery with Faendal and grabbing a crossbow from Ft. Dawnguard, you'll have no trouble dispatching the couple of mages who hang out in Fort Amol.

Hell, you're probably fine to just waltz in at level 1 with nothing but your claws; those things pack a serious punch right out of the gate. But you can't conjure it until you've picked up the rings of blood magic from the Volkihar quest line (you can start the side quest to get those pretty early on though, right after the Redwater Den quest which is the first Volkihar-specific quest).

Also, did you have nay problems with levelling, since you primary skill does not give levels?

No problems at all. Alchemy was very easy for me thanks to my Hearthfire garden and greenhouse. I highly recommend picking up that DLC if you don't have it already. I grew a stock of a couple hundred apiece of Creep Cluster, Mora Tapinella, and Scaly Pholiota. I used the Hjaalmarch (Morthal) House which requires a very short quest to purchase. Every couple of days between questing/training/exploring, I could harvest 30 of each ingredient. After 6-8 harvests, you should have enough to max out Alchemy in a single sitting. Then you can replace those plants with the ones required for the useful potions (i.e., Canis Root, Junper Berries, Blue Mountain Flower, and Wheat).

Conjuration levels kind of slowly with the Bound Bow, but I picked up the Bound Sword and conjured it a couple times in every dungeon purely to level Conjuration more quickly. It'll get to 50+ in no time if you do that.

Archery also levels very quickly with the Bound Bow — due to its high base DR (highest of any bow in the game!) and fast rate of fire (fastest of any bow in the game!) you hit 70+ Archery very quickly. Angi, at her near Falkreath, can offer 6 free levels of Achery training if needed....

Block and Heavy Armor do level rather slowly, but I compensated for that by joining the Companions (you just need to talk to Kodlak in the basement, no need to do any quests). Then I paid for training in those two skills from Farkas and Njada Stone-Arm. My homebrewed potions kept a ton of money in my pocket to pay for this training.

If you want to grind this character to level 30+ you could do it in a day or two. Though I was a bit more lax, preferring to level more by exploring and questing, and only training/grinding when it was convenient. I still got into the mid-thirtes very quickly though, and never felt like it was repetitive or boring as I progressed.
