Character Build: The Crystallurgist

Awesome build as always Teccam, I've been waiting for this ever since you posted that short story. I'd definitely recommend moving the crystals section earlier up, since the talk of crystals early on is very confusing. Amazing discovery on the use of Fortify Destruction to increase range. Also, great choice of ingredients, as I imagine that the Glowing Mushroom can be harvested in bulk from Falmer/Chaurus caves, and the Wheat/Nightshade grown in the greenhouse. How often would you say you used the potions might I ask? Once every battle/dungeon/big fight, etc?

I really love the use of Illusion in this build mate, I've often longed to just pop into the tree for AOT but then I feel like I need ALL of it...

Alchemy potions increase the duration & magnitude of illusion spells don't they? Or is that just for illusion dual casting? That could have been a good perk...

Love that Ring of Erudite, I envy all builds that use that one!

This is another GREAT alchemy build, it's a little confusing in parts but I really like it!

    +1

Thanks, Raid. I'll look into moving that section up. (Probably gonna wait 'til tomorrow though; it's after 2:00AM over here and I've got work in the morning!)

I harvested all the ingredients via Hearthfire, which ensured an ample supply of everything all the time without needing to look around for plants. I used several of the "red crystals" for every dungeon run -- probably never more than ten, but often at least five. Could've gotten by with only two or three, but I just found them too much fun, and my garden kept them in high supply.

I used the others a lot less though. The "white crystal" is only for use before equipping the Aetherial Crown, which is something I generally only did once per dungeon -- twice at the most, and sometimes not at all. You can get six of each fish every 2-3 days via the fish hatchery, so those should always be readily available as well.

The "blue crystal" is really only necessary while in "end-negative" mode (i.e., with the 100% absorption from the crown + white crystal), especially if you're using it in a dungeon without mage enemies. Otherwise, your high Magicka pool and decent regen will keep you going, since most of the spells are well under 100 Magicka to cast, and only the Destruction ones need to be used more than once per encounter.

The violet and amber crystals were probably my least used. I always like healing potions on hand for emergencies, but rarely actually needed them. Same goes for Illusion -- if you only have those for emergencies, you'll generally not need a single one in an entire dungeon. Good for having some fun though.

    Thanks, Mason.

Yeah, I have the same problem with Illusion. It's a fine line there. It can get stupid boring taking it all the way to the end, especially on a character whose survivability is just fine without it. This was a great way to get some endgame functionality from Illusion without going all-in on the perks, and without simply diving in for Aspect of Terror (which is ever so tempting).

I didn't actually check the duration on those spells honestly; I only looked at magnitude. I'll check it tomorrow though, thanks for mentioning that! As I mentioned in the writeup, dual casting would totally be a good investment. I just didn't want to go above level 50. Otherwise I might've thrown in the Hack and Slash perks as well, and maybe Deft Movement.

I'll look into trying to rearrange things to alleviate some confusion. Some confusion may be unavoidable here though, unless I want to totally axe the crystallurgy angle and just present this as a standard spellsword. Which I don't.

Alright, bed time for real now. Thanks everyone!

It's finally here! I'm glad the concept for this has changed so much if this was the end result! Clever way to switch between absorption and regeneration on the fly. I also like how you don't perk Magic Resestance in Alteration :) You mentioned Fire Within, did you use Fire Breath? I got the impression that you preferred Frost Breath :)

This is a build that really strikes me as being different, and stands out as a result.  I really like the concept and the narrative.  The gameplay is also quite subtle in some ways, which appeals to me.  Renaming the potions crystals is just the icing on the cake in my opinion.

    Very good stuff.

Yeah, I'm also like this. Most of the time I come up with the armor combination first and and then specify the skills and mechanics. I really care for aesthetics as I mostly play in 3rd person.

So, this the one, eh? Excellent way to wake up sleeping draugrs with that cloak. :-) Early parts are a bit confusing, though. Im having a hard time keeping track of your crystals, since all of them are explained at the end, but youve been referring to them since the beginning. Im gonna recheck just what Seeker of Sorcery does. Ive read it a couple of times (I have a saved page of the powers and abilities of uesp coz I get out of wifi range sometimes) but I was never mage-oriented so I just focused on the "nobler" ways of battle. :-P This is quite nice. I admit I was a bit turned off by the glass armor. Could you show me a screenshot of your character wearing that? Everytime I see it used I always remembered how disgusting it was when I tried it on my characters.

I can only assume that the Aetherial Crown has the Atronach Stone on it that grants the spell absorption? I couldn't find any reference to what stone the Crown was using. Hopefully I'm not just blind XD

Right, right. Is that a persistent glitch of the stone, then? I thought it only prevented summons occasionally.
