Character Build: The Demonhunter

I think the speed penalty is only an issue early on. Later on you can use the Increase Movement Speed enchantment to counter the slowdown. Also, heavy armor can absorb 90% of incoming damage, which is huge. There are also perks that prevent you completely from getting staggered, which is amazing for this type of build.

My biggest issue while trying to make this build work with Skyre was that, contrary to vanilla Skyrim, there are no perks that allow you to move faster while reloading the crossbow. You can be as fast as you want otherwise, but while you're reloading, you're doomed to walking speed.

Light armor isn't really an option for this build while using Skyre, because while wielding a (cross)bow, everytime you get hit - whether it's by melee, arrow or magic - you stagger so much that it's almost impossible to hit the enemy. So you either avoid getting hit altogether or you invest perks into heavy armor that prevent you from getting staggered.

Thank you for this build it inspired me to create a demon hunting witch. I haven't made a build yet but I made the character she's a bad ass thanks to this build ^•^

Would the Steed Stone counter the penalty? I'd be all for that if so. This build started out as a tank of an archer, as Ben so kindly pointed out, but as more and more crowd control options entered the fray with each additional DLC it evolved to fit your own personal preferences. It can surely be played just as tanky as originally intended, but you can also go the more agile route and rely primarily on "get off me" buttons like Whirlwind Cloak, Ice Form, and Ash runes than just your own heavily armored face to subvert damage. Just make sure you aren't running and hiding and you're living the Demonhunter dream! In fact, as I do believe I've previously discussed with Nal (and I still can't wait for her SkyRe update when time permits!) Glass Armor with a Temple Priest/Novice Hood looks as amazing as any heavy armor combos I may have emphasized in the build, so go ham as you see fit! In fact, and I've mentioned this in other posts around this site recently, my all-time favorite playthrough in Skyrim wasn't a Demonhunter but a more console-friendly streamlined take on it I dubbed my Bowknight. Azhidal's Armor with Heavy Dawnguard Helmet (my favorite looking armor combo in the game now for sure), Enhanced Crossbow, Whirlwind Cloak, Steed Stone, a few crowd control shouts, Smithing, and any other support crafting/magic you might desire and you've got an action-packed archer playthrough that embodies the premise behind this build with less menu-juggling for those of us with only two hotkeys. So even I had my own alternative take on this build of mine I ended up preferring! Long story short, instead of using shadows and cowardice to support your archery needs, use spells, shouts, poisons, bashes and so on to keep enemies off your ass as you wade right on out into the open and announce your arrival with a hail of arrows. There, you've nailed the Demonhunter build. :)

exatly, in skyre heavy armor protects, while light armor makes you agile

And the ideia behind this build is genious, it goes against almost every archer build on this site, the only one that is close is the Stenguard (i think its written like this) , but this is just awsome

Oh god, I didn't even think of the Steed Stone, probably because I always tended to forget about stones entirely in my own playthroughs before finding this page, haha.

Of course, that would work perfectly for earlier levels. Have to keep that in mind and try again when the building event is over :)

I think this is the most liked build on the site, I mean, it's a little over 5 times Legendary, and it deserves it. This build is fantastic!
