Fallout 76: Multiplayer Brainstorming

We can most likely be safe in assuming that if there is crossplay it will only be between Xbox and PC since Sony don't seem to want to play this generation (wasn't it the other way around last time?).

Honestly I'm sitting at about a 70-80% interest in this game; I was at 100% before he confirmed the online. Despite that I want this to be good, there's so much potential fun to be had that I can't help but find myself being hopeful. Something I am curious about is how they'll implement SPECIAL and perks into the game, will they go back to having skills in addition to SPECIAL and perks? How customisable will our characters be? And finally will I be able to get a really big axe/stick and beat things to death with it? Oh or what about "support" perks that let you act like a medic, if there's anything like that in the game then you all know what I'll be doing.

Yeah I was pretty much the same. I kinda hope they're sticking with something that's a bit of a combination between Fallout 4 and New Vegas, I liked the individual skills but also the way Fallout 4 handled perks. Not sure, it's tough to narrow down exactly what would be my favourite system. Just hope it's not something drastically new.

There needs to be some sort of skill system to differentiate between the people in your group. It's going to get boring if you end up in a group with everyone able to do everything because every perk is maxed out.

I want to be able to play as the group medic, or the group provisioner, or even the group stay-at-home-mom (if I wanted to...lol)

That's a pretty solid point Paul...maybe it'll be a bit more like Fallout 3/NV with limited skills and perks then, I mean I guess there's other ways to manage that (something a bit more similar to ESO's system) but I think that a skill-based system would work the best.

How did people feel about the bit where he mentions that a group of you can locate a nuclear bomb, work together to get the parts of the launch code, and then fire at another bunch of people?

I must confess my evil thought that we could form a Tamriel Vault group, get a nuke - and use it on another site whose name we are not allowed to mention... oops, did I just say that out loud :p

I'm not sure on it, I mean, it just depends on the format of the Multiplayer you know? I like it as a concept, and if it were a Single-Player game it'd be the coolest shit ever, but not sure how it'll translate to Multiplayer.

I know someone (I can't remember if it was on this site on in a youtube comment) questioned people who had survived the bombs willingly using nukes themselves. Well I can think of a couple of ways it could go, people driven crazy by the devestation or the beginnings of the children of atom might set them off. Raiders are also a possibility, although they may be more likely to capture one and use it as a threat to get people to do what they want.

As for how I feel about them, they are probably something I'd want to prevent other players from using or I'd just outright avoid them. Supposedly using them creates a high level area with rare loot, so that might be a reason to do so but at the moment I'm still more likely to keep away from them.

And to be fair, if the world is 4x as large as Fallout 4's and with only a few dozen PC's, it wouldn't be difficult to assume you could use them to destroy enemies rather than other players, or just use them without it effecting anyone. I mean let's be real, Fallout 4 is pretty massive so Fallout 76 must be, actually it's kind of difficult to wrap my mind around the size...

Shit, I mean if there are interior cells it'd be utterly sprawling. Damn so maybe the nukes are powerful but also kind of easy to use responsibly? Dunno, just speculation obviously :P

I've been reading comments on the Nexus and something that keeps coming up is Mod support, as in will this game have them? If it's always online then that makes it less likely although it's still possible. Based on other games I can see two ways they could allow mods, the first being that you can only use them when you're playing alone and the second where everyone that is on the server needing to have the mods installed for it to work. Either way I think they would have to be limited to private servers since there's no way it would work if you dropped into a server with a bunch of mods that other people didn't have.

I was thinking the same thing; New Vegas and 4 both give you the ability to stimpak your allies, and maybe you could simply build a character with loads of Repair and Medicine or even Survival (if it's back) and pretty much be the stay-at-home mom, just with more gun manufacturing.

As a small aside, if at some point we are alowed to build our own vault or use one as a base (that isn't 76), I say we name it Vault 20. You see, in the alphabet, the twentieth letter is T, therefore making it the T vault. Small joke.

Lastly, I hope they bring back throwables, because I would like to play a sort of tribal survivalist (although that probably won't be "lore friendly"). If they don't, I guess I will be joining Paul at being a soccer mom.
