Death of a Traitor: Roggvir

Maybe this is just another argument that can't be solved, because it's all about perspective and opinion.

I'm guessing that Dragonborn intended it that way. There's no fun if there's a right answer.

As I said, I'm not talking from Roggvir's perspective, but from mine. If he understood what would come of Ulfric's escape, than he shares the blame.

The exact same thing could be done from the Imperial perspective to justify the execution.

Heh. Well, my perspective is that Ulfric's escape is a good thing, so Roggvir shares the praise. Maybe a statue in Solitude to the fallen hero...dramatic pose...some tasteful nudity.

    Counterarguments.

I wonder who the Nordic equivalent of Bernini is.

Analytically it doesn't matter, but it's part of the narrative. Coulda been really interesting, or really boring. I think they should have had a couple of escort missions in there for each side, where you bring the faction leader somewhere safely.

That explains why Ulfric never leaves Windhelm after that. He's trying to avoid his Hagraven fiance. Smart man!

Is there anything in Skyrim that you don't think could have used a bunch more explanation?

Honestly, I'm perfectly content with the mystery of Winterhold. I think those quests had the perfect balance of revelation and unknowns.

That's hilarious, because I'd like to see more from Winterhold; other than the College, there's little there to be interesting. Even Morthal gets the vampire hunting quests. The smallest village in Whiterun Hold is bigger than Winterhold's capital!

Judge: "Roggvir, do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?"

    Roggvir: "I swear."

Prosecution: "Did you see what happened?"

    Roggvir: "No."

Prosecution: "Did you hear what happened?"

    Roggvir: "No."

Prosecution: "Yet you claim it was not a murder, but how do you know?"

Roggvir: "Coz Ulfric told me on his way out."

History is written by the victor.  If the British had kicked ass in the US Revolutionary War, Benedict Arnold would be a war hero in our history books.

It would also be great if, say, Skyrim as a whole somehow improved or changed after the civil war ended!

Sure. Are saying that Roggvir's guilt/innocence depends on who wins the war? Because I'd actually agree with that.

I do feel that guilt and innocence are matters of human perception.  So, yes.  Unfortunately, he gets executed before the Stormcloaks can win the war.  It would be cool if you could save him somehow.  Bethesda, though.

Though with the Thalmor nearby, simply wearing his amulet of Talos would be grounds for an execution.

Your plan doesn't work, unless you plan on getting Elenwen outiside of the city; when you enter Solitude, Roggvir is about to be executed, so two heads will be rolling before you touch Ondolemar.

You can sneak back into the embassy the same way you came in, then go backwards until you get near the party area, then decapitate her. And to save Roggvir, I just quickly ran up the moment I first entered solitude and killed the executioner. Took the battleaxe and started rampaging with it and Elemental Fury.
