Okay, the real reason is that Chaurus creep me out (I'm a massive arachnophobe) so I try to avoid them. That said, you are right in that it's probably more cost-effective to harvest Chaurus eggs. But Luna Moths are going to be easier to collect when you're on low levels. Fighting a nest of angry Chaurus in Shimmermist Cave when you're on Level 6 just sucks.
