Workshop Commenting Event

  • August 3, 2017

What.. Until now I didn't even know I'm participating..

Imo, if the comment is constructive enough to possibly make the build better, then it deserves the point.

On the other side, an event dedicated to comments and small works like art, a better backstory etc on finished builds in the building group could possibly dig up forgotten/overseen ones  and show more people how to do better and improve as a builder.  Think of it like an active buddy system where you can earn points for helping people while bringing their works up through likes and comments. Idk but this could possibly be a monthly thing and would defo help polishing those less good builds (if the builder doesn't want to improve his content to the point where its out of the first rank then it should be free for a deathmatch).

Bah, knowing about your participation is secondary :P

Uh, I was trying to go in-depth with my logic, but for this sort of Event I tend to go with the system that if you naturally qualify for the Event because your active in the group then it just makes sense to reward that. I'm not going to force anyone to join or anything, but I'm also not going to exclude people who are making awesome contributions just because they missed this post, or anything like that.

Does that make sense? I feel like it doesn't but I often find myself making sense accidentally.

Completed Wips could quite easily vanish as they are moved around the site to their groups. For the event I would keep it to a workshop thing. once a piece is done, it moves out of the way, allowing a new piece to get attention. I feel we need to focus for this event on the content running in the workshop. Not for content waiting to move. They will get the attention from their own groups.

This bear in mind, is my opinion for the event. Not a overall stratagy.
    Sotek Loyal Hound of Hircine

Makes sense really Sotek. I think I'll just leave it with the current system, but I certainly encourage people to follow along and see the final products and make sure to leave a like and even a comment just saying that you like the piece of work.

Oh I fully and howlingly (is that a word?) agree. Follow on support is always welcome and it helps to inspire the creator to make more content while pulling in even more attention to the members and their content.

So, how're we going with the Event at the moment? Excellently is the answer. We've had a really awesome amount of content, tonnes of comments and it's still just a few days into the thing. We're at 31 comments, 7 builds and short stories have been posted, 10 different stories and tricks and 6 posts have been completed including a build, Sotek's army of stories and my army of T&T discussions for Ordinator.

At the moment Relycs is in the lead with an impressive 20 points earned purely through comments. Phil's coming close with 19 and Wulf's at 16 points. Sotek and I could be having a mini-competition in a manner, we're both kind of posting a new piece of content a day but uh, I'm at 58 and he's at 65 if that interests anyone.

Ah well, this is really going well in my opinion. Is everyone having fun with the Event, or just getting involved in the Workshop at the moment?

I just wanted to show off some work that's currently in the Shop (mostly focusing on stuff that hasn't recieved much attention.) And yeah why not, a quick flash event for these pieces. Anyone leaving a comment will get 4 points, a major update will get the poster 2 points and if anything is completed it will be worth... 15 points I think, yeah wouldn't want to go overboard but an extra 5 points is pretty solid.

Accursed Gloom has posted WiP Story: Betrayed Part One

Phil has The Aspirant up at the moment (apparently his first ever build being reposted)

John Leblanc has posted FO4 Build: The War Pig for the current Fallout CB Event.

The Argonian Alchemist has been posted by Wulf

So go check out this quality content, drop a few comments (either as feedback or just to talk about what you enjoy with the build/story so far). It's all some really good stuff and I reccomend reading it anyway even if you've got nothing to say.

Before I head off for the night I wanted to thank everyone yet again for their continued awesomeness in the Event. It's been an absolute blast so far and just seeing people contiously dropping by with new content or comments is just, well awesome :D

To honour that awesomeness, I wanted to unveil something special that I was just talking about with the Admins earlier today. At the end of the Event, we're going to be giving out a badge to every participant (yes, even you Sotek :P), and possibly either a unique badge to each of the people in the top three spots or an extra badge. We're still working out all of the details and figuring out what it looks like but anyone who's seen the other badges knows that their going to be awesome so.

Alright. So Relycs is still in the lead with 24 points but Phil is closer than ever with 23. After that Wulf is at 16 and then you've got a collection of people at around 5 or so, nothing too extreme to catch upto so the game isn't a runaway one yet. Sotek's at 65 and I'm catching up tommorow but for now I'm at 60. And uh let's think, yeah we'll run another little flash event, I'm in the mood for it, but I'll post that after this comment.

Thanks again guys and I'll see you all in the morning.

For the next mini flash Event here we've got a rather interesting one in my opinion. Okay, so this is two-fold and it's a bit different. Either option will get you a pretty large 10 points

For those that have completed a WiP before, I'd like to read a quick 50-250 word statement on either how the Workshop helped you finish it, or why you posted it in the first place.

If you've never posted a WiP or this is your first time using the Workshop, I think a 50-250 word post on what you'd like to get out of the Workshop, or any suggestion you've got for making it easier to use (if you've had trouble :D)

You don't have to post obviously, but it's a fun way to share our experiences, ideas and just talk a little bit (and rack in those points). I'll also open any discussion that's had in here because of this up for points just like normal because it is a discussion that I'd like to encourage. Anyway, have fun with that, I'll withdraw from joining because I can't post less than 250 words :P

Where do we post this little ditty, Deebs? Here?

    Okay begin work count.

My relationship with the Workshop is a complicated one, though I do manage to get builds out. I do. First two builds, I didn't use it and can I say, that I regretted the decision? I disliked the secrecy and missed the feedback. So I used the workshop for my first SE build; The Outsider. If you can imagine a magnum opus in build form, this was it. Not that the gameplay was complicated, but the scope of the build was large. It told a detailed story in the form of a build and I was basing this all on a scrap of information from one lore book. I needed the feedback that I knew the workshop would provide me.

That build was there for over a year, I believe, but I will say that I am glad it spent the time there. It went through two artistic overhauls and people offered their input on perkspreads, there was a mini discusssion on Wuuthrad, and all the while the build grew from both my work and the workshop's input. I used it to mark my gameplay progress, debate perk choices, gear choices. I used it to sound out all ideas to whoever would listen to them.

And it worked. A year later The Outsider came out and I think it was the build that turned the corner for me. My first build on SE and the first build where I really embraced the formatting for this platform and embraced a more unorthodox method of posting builds. There's no headings, it's organized in a different way and the workshop helped me realize this. They helped me tell Henantier's story.

I will never not put a build in the workshop again. The Agents of Oegnithr went up there too and I have others that are still languishing there due to my terrible work schedule and pending move. And I think it's high time, my first two builds got the same treatment that my SE builds got. Expect things to go up soon. Very soon. It is time for some remastering.

    End word count.

It is more than 250, but what else do we expect from the Long-Chapper? :D

Yeah this is good Liss, sorry for not mentioning it (was a bit late when I came up with the idea). Anyway, your opinion is always one I'm glad to hear because you do have one of the most interesting relationships with the Workshop cause of how long you spend here (I'm still going to beat it one day :P), I can't really think of that many people that have done the same. I mean sure there are some people that have you know, posted a WiP, left it for two months and then come back or saved a copy, had me delete it and then re-post later but it's very rare to have someone who arguably works on stuff fairly frequently over such a long period of time.

And other than the you know, quality of your content which makes it enjoyable, I do always enjoy the huge discussions that take place in them. It isn't uncommon for your builds to hit 50+ comments, I think you hit 100 on The Outsider but I could be wrong. Regardless you do end up with more comments than just about anything here and they're always some of the coolest to get involved with.

Thanks for dropping in on that flash event Liss and I can't wait to see some updates :D

I had my very first build in the workshop for like 2 months or so because I needed some thoughts of people that had been here for a while, but back then the workshop was more like a ghosttown imo.

There were some comments on it and I tried to use the input and now when I look at it, it certainly is important to get constructive criticism on your content while it's in the workshop. But at first it's not that easy to see as to why that is and how to use it effectively to make your stuff better. More than one WiP is required to see the true potential of the workshop.

Some of my tips and tricks had been in the workshop, but almost no one here could really give me any advice on them, because I was kind of the only one really knowing that much about the subject. So eventually, I just posted them into the group and polished them a day later. Same with the roleplay-tips. Some collabs in which I participated have been here each for at least a month and we could get something out of it. On the other hand, Manik and me used the element of surprise (not posting it first into the workshop) to get some good recognition on a build for the 5th building contest.
However, as it turned out he created secondary accounts or whatever to get us the likes. I was away by that time and got caught in the shitstorm around the great scandal that this build was :). So we should probably just have used the workshop to make it good enough for the likes we shouldn't have received.

    Edit:

Didnt you talk about Manik's legendary Ranger build? Seems like some likes were faked on that one too. Fascinating, digging through old stuff. And I didnt even talk about any old friendships :), you gotta give me that.

    _______

In short, it was discovered that there were a number of recently made accounts on the site that have done almost nothing on the site other than like a pair of builds, Manik’s Green Warden and the Ada’Soon, the latter of which, as I’m sure most of you reading this know, is one of the entries for the contest. An investigation into these accounts revealed that a number of them were centered on certain geographic hotspots and that some even shared IP addresses (i.e. they were alts of one another), making them even more suspect. Upon being asked Manik explained that the accounts came from members of his gaming team. The admins have already gone through and deleted the extra accounts, but the like total on the discussions that they liked have not updated accordingly. So, for purposes of determining contest winners, the Ada’Soon is considered to have eight less likes than what’s actually listed.

Yeah, I definitely get that Relycs. We still do have a bit of an issue with content coming from non CB groups getting much attention to be completely blunt about it but we are at least getting to the point where people are feeling comfortable to post it (which is a slight step up), because other than your tips we generally used to get builds, builds and more builds. Which is fair, that was the original purpose of the group (primarily) but it's always been something I've been trying to change to various degrees of success.

Well, I'll never say that I'd complain about more people commenting ya know, but I do think we're a fair bit better now. It's very rare that stuff comes through with less than 10 comments and about a month back we had a new guy stay with something that managed around 50 comments from a fair few people. We can always move up more, but it is better than back then Relycs.

    Definitely.
With all those bigger mods and Skyrim SE now, one could possibly launch a small event for the tips/tricks group or roleplay where people create small discussions and explain how some things work, like with your Ordinator tips and how they're using x/y mods to get whatever roleplay feeling. But then again, I dont know if many people are into that stuff. It might be time to find out.

I do not suggest that because for me, tips & tricks is kinda what this place is for you but because it should have the attention, as you said.
