Let's Investigate: The Ring of the Erudite!

    Damn good stuff, sir.

Thank you for explaining this one properly in a way that I couldn't possibly have done, James. The info about in-combat vs. out-of-combat is especially interesting, because the implications are that the ring is even more effective in-combat (where it effectively triples that base MagickaRateMult) than out of combat. I didn't even think to test it in combat, but yeah, that really does explain it. That, combined with the fact that the ring adds +100 Magicka, makes it arguably the single most powerful item in the game....

I'm not sure there's an argument to be honest - I can't think of anything else off the top of my head that holds a candle to it. Now if only someone could figure out a way to get the wretched thing without joining the Volkihar ...

A question does spring to mind for the sake of curiosity - does vampire necromage affect both buffs from the ring?

    Oh and welcome back James!

Thank you very much, it's always a source of happiness being able to contribute to this fine site.

I can't state with absolute certainty that Necromage boosts the regen but I'm inclined to say that it does since I see no reason why it shouldn't.  I do know for a fact that it buffs the fortify magicka aspect by 25% (total of +125 magicka).

As for the ring's OPness, it's the single reason why I almost always side with the Volkihar my games.  A very fun use for it is being able to make any character into a viable mage to some degree.  For many situations wearing the ring is equivalent to wearing 200% magicka regen enchantments along with the +100 magicka, even characters in unenchanted heavy armour can make using magic viable.

    P.S.

Before anyone asks I believe fortify restoration doesn't work, neither enchantment is flagged as being under the 'restoration' school.  While these effects fall under Restoration as a default, typically individual effects must also be classified for fortify potions to take affect.  It's not something I've personaly tested so this may be incorrect but I don't think they work.

Awesome work here guys. Teccam, that is some dedicated testing man. And James, I'm jelly of your CK skills/access! I actually knew most of this because James had covered it somewhere else (a build's comments??). Needless to say, the Ring of Erudite is a game changer and totally worth the few quests it takes to retrieve it! Tec, I am so down for contributing more posts like these. Let me wrap up my next build and then I'll be a T&T guru with ya ;)
