Guide to Raising Dremora and Draugr Thralls

  • January 13, 2016

Hello. This is my first post in the Skyrim Tips and Tricks page. Today I shall be talking about the slightly ground breaking (when in the right hands), of raising Dremora and Draugr Thralls. This guide is perfect for anyone who practices Necromancy and/or someone who loves letting their minions create pure chaos. Shall we continue?

Guide to Raising Dremora and Draugr Thralls

Have you ever wanted to raise a Draugr Death Or a Dremora to be your Undead minion of pure destruction? Without needing mods or cheats? After countless of hours of searching online and on the UESP I found it. All you need is; one FULLY permanent item, one corpse (Draugr or Dremora) and one Raise Dread Zombie (or any weaker Raise Zombie spells).

    You may be wondering what a FULLY permanent item is. Well, effectively it is an item that NEVER despawns even after its related quest has been finished. There are only 4 fully permanent items in Skyrim with all of the DLCs, they are;
    - Aetherial Crown   - Ebony Blade   - The Gauldur Amulet   - Zephyr
If a corpse has an permanent item 'in' its inventory it will not respawn. Which can be helpful in many ways, such as needing candidates for the Dead Thrall spell to simply needing a move 'corpse container'.

Corpses. Where do I start. Well for starters I have found out this 'trick' works on only Draugr and Dremora (still testing but due to schedule it may or may not happen). Everyone knows what a Draugr is and where to find one, same with Dremora. In the next few paragraphs, I shall talk about Draugr, Dremora and worthy candidates for this 'trick'.

Draugr have several 'stages' or 'levels' or 'types' each appearing when you get to a certain level. I won't explain each different 'stage' of Draugr but there are two 'stages', you should keep an eye out for. They are Draugr Deathlords and Draugr Death Overlords. Both are very hard to kill, which makes them both perfect candidiates for this 'trick'. Draugr Deathlords appear commonly at around level 30 while Draugr Death Overlords appear as a boss around level 34.
For more information about Draugr, see the link below.

Dremora are rare and hard to find in Skyrim due to 'living' in Oblivion. However there are some places where you can easily find them. If you wish to find a Dremora simply either head to the Shrine of Mehrunes Dagon (after completing Pieces to the Past) or the mysterious Atronach Forge in the Midden under the College of Winterhold. There are several types of Dremora which appear which at certain levels. I won't explain each different type of Dremora but there is only one type of Dremora you should look out for. It is called (a) Dremora Markynaz which appears at level 36.

Raise Zombie spells are relatively easy to find, if you know where to look. I highly recommend using Raise Dread Zombie spell because (according to the UESP), it has a 'hidden' effect that allows your minions to regenerate their health, by 3 points for 60 seconds. You can buy this spell tome from Phinis Gestor in the College of Winterhold, or you can simply wait and pray to the Nine Divines (or whoever you worship), once you hit level 35 as it becomes random loot.

Ok, now this is where it gets fun. Once you have obtained one FULLY permanent item, one corpse (Draugr or Dremora) and Raise Dread Zombie (or any other Raise Zombie spell), you shall finally be able to unleash pure chaos upon the world. Simply place the permanent item 'in' the corpses inventory and simple use a Raise Zombie spell to raise it. Doing so will replicate the Dead Thrall spell, and the corpse won't time out due to the permanent item inside the corpses inventory.

If you need some proof to see if this 'trick' actually works, I recommend you check out both Lazareth the Risen and Wanderer of Oblivion to see how far and how evil this 'trick' can be.

Well I guess that's all folks (for now anyway), if this article/blog/thingy can improve anywhere let me know in the comments.

I have absolutely no idea what to put down regarding the tags. I may or may not be updating this tomorrow. Also I have been planning to post this 'trick' I just have been busy with the Art Group.

Hmmm... This is interesting. A neat trick without getting the thrall spell. That said, why only draugr and dremora? Can this not be replicated with normal corpses? Imagine the chaos unleashed if this trick could be used on Ulfric? With ulfric has a thrall and the shout that brings the undead dragon (and his minions) to tamriel, you'll have at least 4 ground its and a dragon fighting for you. Not to mention that both the dragon and Ulfric (and you, the dragonborn) can shout... Ahh... The chaos...

I wonder if this works for beasts. It would be a perfect way to be able to play a beast master build without having to grind conjuration and alchemy to godly levels before one can even have a pet. Add onto that the Twin Souls perk (when you do get it) and you could have dual pets to aid you (anyone else thinking dual snowy sabre cats to bring the pain while you strafe and keep aggro). You could even make a hybrid team and take up restoration to be able to mend pets (Necromantic Healing and Heal Undead spells via Dawnguard DLC).

Very cool.  My current build is using zombies so I can certainly utilize this new (to me) information.  Thanks.

Hey Warlocksg, currently I have only been able to test it with Draugr and Dremora, but I shall be going testing it on more minions e.g Man, Mer, Trolls you name it I'll try it.
