Tips for an Assassin Character

As I'm sure many people can tell by my username, I'm a big fan of assassin builds. I see some people struggling in the beginning of assassin builds so I'm going to show you some of the best gear for assassins in the game as well as tips for them. So, here we go. Note: This is without smithing and enchanting, so you don't have to worry about that. Also, if you don't worry about armor rating, Cicero's armor set is a good alternative for these, as well as the Jester's armor set and the Shrouded robes armor set

    Best Armor for an Assassin

In Skyrim, there are many good sets of armor for assassins, but these are my personal favorites and ones I think are the best

Helmet: Ancient Shrouded Hood. Gives great armor rating and is amazing for any assassin because of the bow damage. This one was one of the most obvious ones out of them all.

Armor: Nightingale Armor. Only reason I picked this over the Ancient Shrouded Armor is because the Ancient Shrouded Armor enchantment is useless and Nightingale Armor has better armor rating. Plus you get a boss cape

Gauntlets: Ancient Shrouded Gloves. These are a must have for any assassin. Doubles sneak attack damage with one handed weapons?! That goes from a 15x extra sneak attack damage with dagger to a whopping 30x damage. Um, OP much?

Boots: Ancient Shrouded Boots. These make you move silently and have a better armor rating than Nightingale Boots, so these are really good early game, although not as useful late game.

Ring: Nightweaver's Band. Very useful, even for a assassin who doesn't use magic. Get an increase to your sneak? Yes, please!

Necklace: Amulet of Articulation. There isn't a great amulet for an assassin, as far as I know, so I go for the Amulet of Articulation to get out of tough situations.

    Best Weapons for an Assassin

There is no best weapon for an assassin, but here are my two favorites.

Blade of Woe: This is the strongest base damage dagger in the game, plus it drains 10 points of health from enemies. It is my favorite dagger, and I have used it in every one of my assassin games.

Mehrunes' Razor: This is the second strongest base damage dagger in the game, plus it has the best effect in the game in my opinion. A CHANCE TO INSTANTLY KILL A TARGET?!?! Ancient dragon? One hit-DEAD. Draugr Deathlord? One hit-DEAD. It is a small chance but still, it is a completely boss dagger.

Nightingale Bow: Personally my favorite bow in the game. Easy to get and quite powerful, I use it on most assassin characters I have

Dwarven Black Bow of Fate: Note: Must have Dragonborn DLC to use this. By far one of the best bows in the game. While decently hard to get, it is worth it because of its boss enchantment

    Tips for an Assassin

These are some tips that I have found while playing as an assassin. So, here you go:

    1. Use a dual wield power attack when sneak attacking. It is considerably faster than power attacking with one dagger, and it essentially doubles damage output, going from 30x damage to 60x damage. Um, god much?

    2. Don't use a follower. When you are sneaking, they will easily get you detected, and if you do get searched for, the follower will sprint in instead of hiding. Take my advice, go alone. In this game, followers are more of a hassle than anything.

    3. Always sneak. If there is an enemy and they spot you, you will get demolished. So always sneak to keep any potential enemies away.

    4. Don't just use daggers, use bows as well. Bows are just as useful as daggers. If you can't get close enough for a sneak attack with daggers, use a bow. They will still get the job done as well as daggers would.

    5. The Quiet Casting perk in the Illusion tree affects shouts as well. A way to use this effectively is to use Whirlwind Sprint with that perk. You will be able to essentially glide around without being detected. Shoutout to Harry for bringing this to my attention!

I hope this has helped you guys! If you want me to add anything to this, let me know in the replies!

With enhanting and smithing, I believe any armor could be good assassin armor.

that is true, but these are the things you can get without smithing and enchanting. I'll add that to the post thanks for pointing that out :D

I personally don't see assassins needing to fight at all. The whole point of assassinations is not to get caught and perform clean, surgical killings. So I don't pay attention to the armor rating. You can also use Shrouded Hand Wraps for the same double backstab damage and Shrouded Shoes for the same 0.5 muffle, Linwe's armor set for a combat-oriented character. Poisons can paralyze the target or be another source of damage. There is also Shrouded Hood with sneak bonus, and Aetherial Crown which can be customized to complement assassin playstyle

thanks for the feedback! the only reason I use items with armor rating is because of the chance that you COULD get caught. But I will add that to the post.

Probably because most people confuse assassin with homicidal maniac that kills everything in it's path.

I disagree with nightingale armour being better than ancient shrouded mostly because you say shrouded is useless. If you think being immune to poison is useless then I wager you don't spend much time in dwarven ruins, that armour has saved my life 100 times (particularily if you run 100 health only). Ironically nightingale boots are better than shrouded since they are 100% muffle.

Only the highest level version of them, James (32+ according to UESP). The only non-leveled gear with 100% muffle is the Predator's Grace

I really can't see why is it so. Any assassin game I saw reward stealthiness and avoiding enemies (maybe with the exception of Dishonored though)

Umm... Dishonored rewarded you with avoiding and not killing enemies and being stealthy...
