    The Yokudan Ascendant

"I love the smell of burning corpses in the morning"

Hey guys, this is my first build and also my first post on this blog. I’ve seen a lot of builds here and this one is a more focused version of one of my earlier and most successful characters.

Lionheart, you were one of Hammerfell’s finest treasure-hunters, plundering every tomb you could find as a way of providing for yourself and, let’s face it, a good bit of greed. But one day, you were caught in the Crowns’ burial grounds and put in chains. You were given 2 choices: hang or join the Legion in the war against the Aldmeri Dominion, You chose the latter and there you became one of the best warriors of your squad. You fought fiercely against the Thalmor killing probably hundreds of them but then, the Empire surrendered, conceding Hammerfell to them. This was a hard blow to your belief in the Mede dynasty. You took the fight to the Thalmor by your own hands and many more of them fell by your blade until, one day, you were caught in an ambush by one of the retreating Thalmor squads. You were beaten, tortured and left to die in the Alik’r Desert. But it was not your time yet; the life force and spirit of your ancestors started flowing through your veins, awakening something in you that you didn’t even know existed, millennia of ancient knowledge burnt into your brain. Now, more than 20 years later, you discovered you are Dragonborn and you will use that power to end the Mede dynasty, raise the Empire from the dead and bring the Thalmor to their knees.

Race: Redguard (for RP purposes), Nord or Orc. All of these classes work well, due to having bonuses to most of the major skills for this build

    Recommended Stones: Warrior/Lord

    Main Skills:

One-Handed: Your ancestor’s blade mastery flows through you, giving you a skill matching that of the Sword-Singers of old.

Enchanting: Through the will of your ancestors, you’ve gained an extensive knowledge of this matter. Your weapons burn with your hatred for the Thalmor and your armor allows you to be more durable than the average Redguard.

Light armor: You pack light and dress light, perfect for tailing your enemies under the scorching sun of the Alik’r Desert. It might not be the most protective but its low weight allows you to dodge attacks all together.

    Secondary skills:

Blocking: Through years of training, you’ve become able to block arrows with your shield and to predict the attacks of your enemies and counter accordingly.

Sneak: You perfected your skills for months in the desert and have mastered the art of moving quickly and silently

Smithing: You can forge your own weapons and armor but prefer not to, simply keeping them as sharp and protective as possible

Archery: When your opponents are just out of swords reach, this deadly weapon will turn the odds in your favor.

Destruction: Useful skill for increasing exponentially your Fire damage, not heavily perked (You don’t need to grind it. Try, every level, to use your 5 training sessions with Faralda and you’ll get to 60, which is what you need to get.

    Level 50 perks: Click here

Stats: 1 Magicka/3 Health/2 Stamina (until you have 180 Magicka so you can grind smithing more easily. From there on, 3 Health/2 Stamina/0 Magicka).

Shouts: Slow Time, Unrelenting Force, Dismay, Whirlwind Sprint, Aura Whisper, Marked for Death, Force without Effort (technically not a shout but you get what i mean)

    Special moves:

Intimidating strike (Stealth roll+Critical Strike+Dismay): When pitted against a large group of enemies, single out your target and outright assassinate him. Shout at the rest of the group and watch them flee at the sight of their dead comrade.

Razor Rain (from high ground Slow Time+Zephyr)You survey the battlefield and, when ready, shout, grinding time to a near halt. Proceed to take advantage of zephyr's increased firing rate and bring down a blizzard of arrows upon them.

Yokudan Discharge ( Quick reflexes+Power Bash+Unrelenting Force): When you are put through a certain pain threshold, your ancestors take control of you and quickly clear the battlefield in an explosion of arcane energy throwing back and seriously hurting anyone unlucky enough to be caught in the blast area

Gameplay: This build plays like a sword and board character except that it takes a more cautious approach to combat and it has a very regular usage of shouts either to level the playing ground or to scout ahead. Aura Whisper should be used mainly as a scouting tool since it has a far lesser effect in detection than any other shout or spell. Before you get spotted, you will try to thin the enemy’s ranks through stealth so you can tilt the fight more in your favor, whether with bow and arrow or in a more personal fashion. Due to this, I either recommend no followers or, if you like the company (I use Erandur), get them the Ebony Mail to make sneaking a whole lot easier. You shouldn't be afraid to rush in, though. You might not be able to tank so much but you still have an extremely high damage output with your enchanted sword and ability to parry most power attacks. In regards to interaction with the world, you will try to do any quest that could negatively influence the Thalmor in Skyrim. That means attacking any Thalmor you see outside of cities and freeing worshippers of Talos.

Keeping in mind your backstory as a treasure-hunter, you will also raid as many Nord Ruins as possible in order to reach the precious loot hidden deep within them.

"Shadows are a man's best friend. Or, in my case, many"

    Equipment:

Angau Coch, the Red Death (Blades sword with Fiery soul trap and Absorb Health): Your sword burns with your hatred for the Thalmor. They will all know the taste of steel soon enough.

Ancile, the Aegis of Protection (Imperial Light Legion Shield with Fortify blocking and Resist magic): Those pesky wizards won't even have enough time to cast their spells before they get their faces bashed in by your mighty shield.

Zephyr: This bow is imbued with some sort of strange magic. It allows its wielder to shoot even faster than he could before. Complements well your lack of speed in drawing another arrow.

Valkyrie (Stalhrim Bow with Frost Damage and Soul Trap): This bow was given to you by a Skaal villager for your help in dealing with Miraak. It appears to seep into your foe's very soul taking it away and their will to fight.

Hide of the Leviathan (Vampire armor with Fortify Light Armor and Fortify Health): Ripped from the body of a particularly powerful Vampire, you took at as a trophy and it is now your chest piece of choice.

Ancient Shrouded Cowl: Found in the body of the assassin of old, you have put this to a much better use than him just by the simple act of not dying.

Gloves of Dexterity (Vampire gauntlets with Fortify One-Handed and Fortify Archery):  You actually found these in the Crowns’ burial grounds. You don’t know why nor how they got there but they resonate some sort of power into whatever weapon you’re wielding.

Side note: These gloves can be hard to find depending on your luck. Vampires may drop them and also the Traveler random encounter. You can find them in Castle Volkihar near the alchemy lab or, earlier, in the Volkihar undercroft.

Boots of Subterfuge (Vampire boots with Fortify Sneak and Fortify Carry weight): You came upon these while exploring Bloodlet Throne. After very nearly dying to Vighar, you managed to plunge your sword into his mouth as he was preparing to bite you. You found these in one of the holding cages for the humans they fed on. You use them as a tribute to all the men and women who died to those filthy vermin.

Shinji’s memento (Gold Saphire ring with Fortify one-handed and Fortify healing rate): Passed down in your family through each generation, you are now

the recipient of this relic of the ancient times. It imbues in you a massive will to fight.

Amulet of Unwavering Silence (Bone Hawk amulet with Fortify Sneak and Fortify Stamina regen): Fashioned from the skulls of the undead birds who circle Castle Volkihar, it makes your footsteps as quiet as their heartbeats. It also seems, for some unknown reason, to help relieve you of any and all tiredness

    Recommended quests (not in order):

Main Questline, Dark Brotherhood Questline, Lost to the Ages, In my Time of Need, Book of Love (for the Magic resistance effect), Boethia’s Calling, Civil war Questline (whichever side seems more appropriate to you, I chose Imperial simply because General Tullius seemed like the lesser of two evils), Missing in Action, Dragonborn Questline, Thieves Guild Questline, Dawnguard Questline (Dawnguard side because, as a Redguard, you abhor Necromancy which is kind of the vampire’s thing), Ancestral Worship, Forgotten Legends (you will have to join the College of Winterhold for this one so you can get into Saarthal. Do that and don’t advance any more into that questline), The Black Star, among others.

Hope you guys enjoyed this build, any criticism would be appreciated. Hope you guys had as much fun playing as Lionheart (that's how i named him) as i did, See ya

This is a wall of text.

The only picture you've used here is extremely overused.

You wrote this whole thing in second person, and while there's nothing wrong with that, I wouldn't recommend it.

Try to focus on improving the presentation.

Thank you. That was the kind of input that i wanted. I was more focused on the build itself and the write-up than the presentation itself. I realize i have to work on that but i don't really know where to get some images like i've seen in other builds for armor and rings. Anyway, thank you for the comment, Miraak

For images that would portray the character try googling up some concept art, looking on deviantart, or asking PC players around the blog if they'll take screenshots of your build.

For images referring to the in-game stuff, go to uesp, search the image, and open it in a new tab for a large, high quality version of it. Never take images off the regular wiki, they are horrible quality.

Good luck with improving your build

Thank you for the advice. Added a few "special moves" and a good amount of pictures ( I don't feel it's too much. Think it's at a good point). Took me a good 1 to 2 hours just finding a few good images and about 2 to 3 on formatting (was still kind of learning how to change the formatting and stuff on the site) but i think it looks much better now. Plus fixed some typos i probably wouldn't have noticed if not for your comment. Thank you, Miraak. Here do I toil

Your hunt for pictures was worth it; they brought a lot of character to the build, though I think the main thing is the content, which was also well done. Definitely an interesting build I'll have to try as one of my rare blocking characters.
