I've been a longtime creeper and wanted to finally post my first build. Now, next to game play the most important thing I'm looking for in a game is immersion. How am I going to get into the plot of the game? After numerous play throughs and trying dozens of builds, I feel that I have found the best build for me in regards to both game play AND immersing myself into the world of Skyrim, and I hope that you will enjoy it just as much as I did =) The back story I have supplied along with the build really helped me get into my character more, and made me feel more invested in the quests I was doing instead of just rushing through trying to finish everything as quickly as I could! For those who don't care so much for the role-playing aspect of a build I have supplied a TL/DR at the bottom of the back story.

So Ladies and Gentleman, may I present to you my very first build...

    THE DOVAHKIIN

"Damn it Ulfric!! When did you become so blind!?!" I pound my fist on the table inside the tent of Ulfric Stormcloak, my oldest friend. My father was a blacksmith under the employ of Ulfric's father and as children we became fast friends, even taking an oath of brotherhood. When I wasn't tending the forge with my father we would be training with the guards in Windhelm, learning the ways of blade and axe. Ulfric eventually was taken to High Hrothgar, to be trained by the Greybeards, while I remained in Windhelm and joined the Guard. 10 years later the Aldmeri Dominion attacked Cyrodill. As part of the Empire, Skyrim was  called to aid in the war effort. Ulfric returned home from his training with the abilities of The Voice and together we enlisted to fight in the army. We fought alongside one another through numerous battles, winning some, but ultimately we were against impossible odds. During one long and bloody battle we had been overrun, Ulfric and I had been taken prisoner along with the rest of our comrades that had lived. Because of Ulfric's status as son of a Jarl, the Thalmor tortured him, trying to get information to aid their cause. The boy I had once known was forever changed by the horrors of war...

Once the White-Gold Concordat had been signed, the Empire had bartered for our freedom. Ulfric returned home while I decided to remain in Cyrodiil and help return order to the Empire in any way I could. For bravery and valor in battle I was awarded, and quickly became recognized for both my charisma with the people, and skills at diplomacy within the courts. Years later, disturbing reports of the Dominion preparing for another assault had reached us, and shortly after it was reported that Ulfric had killed Torygg, the High King of Skyrim. If the information that the Aldmeri were planning on launching another assault on the Empire were true, then the full strength and co-operation of the Provinces would be needed. I was instantly dispatched as an ambassador to try and reason and negotiate a peace with Ulfric. Finding him encamped near Darkwater Crossing, I made my way to seek an audience with my old friend..It wasn't going well...

"Blind!? Is it blindness to want to live free!?!? To want to worship OUR God's as our fathers did before us!?!?" He shouted back at me, "You're blind because you can't see the larger picture Ulfric!! The troubles of the few pale in comparison to the  troubles of the many!!!" Ulfric only sneered, planting his fists firmly on the table opposite me, "Why should Skyrim care about the troubles of a weak and corrupt Empire!? We have always been strong! Once I drive the Empire out from Skyrim and unite the Jarls, we will have nothing to fear from the damned elves!!" I drop my head in frustration. The young man I grew up with was destined to be wise and just. But he had changed, and not for the better. "Ulfric, if that is what you believe than you are both blind and a fool. There is no way that Skyrim alone can hope to stand against the Thalmor! In order for us to win this, protect our people, and preserve our way of life, YOU need to let go of this foolish crusade!! Sacrifices had to be made in order to ensure our survival. If we didn't make the choices we had NONE of us would be here today, or shackled in chains of servitude to the Dominion!" Stubborn as ever, Ulfric refused to see reason, "When did you become such a mild-drinker!? Your father must look down from Sovngarde and WEEP for the Imperial lap dog his son has become!!!" He always had a way with words.

Enraged at Ulfric's talk of my Father I launch a fist directly into his jaw, he falls backwards from the force of the blow. If I can't talk sense into him then by Talos I'll beat it into him! I throw the table that was between us aside and move towards him, before I can throw another punch Ulfric is back on his feet.

    "FUS RO DAH!!!!!"

Using the power of The Voice, Ulfric sends me flying out of the tent. I fly into a tree and with a heavy thud land a heap on the ground. Trying to regain my senses I look up to see Ulfric storming out of the wreckage of his tent, axe in hand. I spring to my feet and run to my horse, freeing my sword from it's sheath. I turn back around, swinging wide with my sword just in time to block Ulfric's downward swing. He may have the power of the voice, but I was always the stronger! With all the strength I can muster I drive myself forward, pushing Ulfric backwards and off balance before thrusting a boot into his stomach. He had fallen back and I had the dominant position, but just as I raised my sword overhead, havoc broke loose. An Imperial battalion, lead by General Tullius, had burst onto the scene. During the confusion of my dual with Ulfric the Stormcloaks were quickly overrun. My attack on Ulfric brought to a halt, I paused to try and take in what was happening, and during my bewilderment something had hit me hard in the back of the head. The taste of blood and dirt in my mouth, the last thing I remember seeing was Ulfric being bound and gagged as conciousness slipped away...

It was two days later that I finally regained my senses. I had been loaded into a cart with Ulfric, a young Stormcloak, and a horse thief who had gotten caught up in the confusion. Talk among the guards was that Ulfric was sentenced to death for his crimes and we were being transported to Helgen for execution. When we arrived I saw the Headsman, sharpening his axe in preparation for its duty. Despite my death being close at hand, all I could feel was relief. At least now this war is over, and the Empire can focus on defending against the Thalmor. We're unloaded off the carts and the Imperial soldiers run through the list, calling out names. Ulfric Stormcloak Jarl of Windhelm, Ralof of Riverwood. The horse thief, Lokir, is called and tries to make a run for it, screaming that he was not part of the rebellion. Before he can run 10 paces he's shot down by Imperial archers,  "Anyone else feel like running!?" The Imperial captain calls out to the rest of the captives. "Wait a minute, you there! Who are you?" A young Nord soldier had picked me out of the crowd. I look sidelong at Ulfric, who just stares back, a burning hatred in his eyes. I let out a sigh before looking back at the young Nord, "Just a Nord trying to save his home..."

"You picked a bad time to come back to Skyrim, Kinsman. Captain, what should we do with him? He's not on the list." The Imperial captain looks me over before shrugging, "Forget the list, he dies with the rest of them!!" "I'm sorry, but at least you'll die here, in your homeland. To the block prisoner, nice and easy." I am pushed in position among the rest of the prisoners. Everything is a blur as I close my eyes and breath in the cool, crisp air of Skyrim. "Next, the Nord in the rags!!" I'm pulled from my thoughts by the announcement of my death, just as I take a step towards the block, a loud roaring bellows out from the mountains. I'm ordered to ignore it and take my place at the block. Accepting my fate, I look up for one last glance at the sky I was born under, when out of the clouds a beast tumbles towards the Earth!! Black wings and breathing fire, as impossible as it seems a dragon lands on the top of a tower and flaming boulders crash into the ground! I was able to break free and make my escape with the young Nord, who told me his name was Hadvar. Together we make our way to his uncle's home in Riverwood. After explaining what had happened and the great shadow that had flown over the land, Hadvar's uncle urges me to go to Whiterun and inform Jarl Balgruuf of what had happened, in hopes he will send aid to fortify Riverwood. He gives me some supplies and I make my farewells, heading to see the Jarl of Whiterun.

After arriving in Whiterun and convincing Jarl Balgruuf to send reinforcements to Riverwood, a guard storms into the palace, claiming a dragon is attacking the western tower! The Jarl sends me along with his Housecarl to assess the situation and hopefully defeat the dragon. Once we arrived, the dragon came out of the mountains and flew over us, breathing scorching flames. The Whiterun Guard are able to bring the beast to the ground, where I managed to jump onto the dragon and plunge my great sword deep into it's skull! Celebrating the victory, we're cut short as a light shines forth from the dragon and swirls around me.  After the spectacle, a guard claims that I am Dragonborn! Able to absorb the souls of dragons and use the power of The Voice. I shout out at the sky, clouds swirling before the might of my voice!

Later on, I found myself sitting against a wall on top of the gate to the city. I had been made Thane of Whiterun and had been called to High Hrothgar by the Greybeards. But I still had a mission to complete, to bring an end to the civil war and unite Skyrim and the Empire to battle against the Dominion. Knowing what I have to do I start to make my way to High Hrothgar. I am going to train the way of the voice, raise an army, and aid the Empire in ending this civil war. I am going to defeat Ulfric. I am going to have to kill my friend.

TL/DR: Childhood friend of Ulfric Stormcloak who tries (and fails) to talk sense into him to stop the civil war. Sets out on quest to stop Ulfric and bring peace between Skyrim and the Empire.

    Race: Nord
Stone: Steed (Until Conditioning has been taken) and then Lord
    Skills: Two Handed/Block/Heavy Armor/Smithing/Enchanting/Speech
    Shouts: Dragon Aspect/Unrelenting Force/Fire Breath/Frost Breath/Storm Call/Elemental Fury/Dragonrend/Call Dragon/Soul Tear
    Blessing: Talos
    Essential Quests: Main Quest/Companions/Mages Guild/Civil War (Imperials)/Ashore in a Sea of Ghosts/Dragonborn

    Equipment
For this build I felt that aesthetically the Ancient Nord armor was perfect, nevermind it's formidable defenses. With smithing, heavy armor perks, and Dragon Aspect I had no problem running this character well into higher levels. A bow is only used to bring dragons to ground until you get Dragon Rend.

Nord Hero Greatsword - Unenchanted for Elemental Fury (Before Dawnguard pick up a silver greatsword from the Silver Hand, enchanting it with Fire)
    Helmet - Helm of Yngol
Armor - Ancient Nord Armor - Health Regen (Stamina Regen)
Gloves - Ancient Nord Gloves - Fortify Two-Handed (Fortify Block)
Boots - Ancient Nord Boots - Resist Fire (Fortify Two Handed)
    Amulet - Amulet of Talos
Ring - Any self enchanted ring - Stamina Regen (Health Regen)

Up until acquiring this armor Iron, Steel or the Companion's Wolf armor can be used.

    Skills
    Two-Handed
You spent your childhood and teenage years training with Ulfric and the guards of Windhelm where you became a peerless swordsman. The years you spent in battle has further transformed you into a deadly opponent. You charge fearlessly headlong into the fray, supplementing your already considerable skills with the Power of the Voice, striking hard and fast with a precision and ferocity that few on Nirn can match, let alone hope to survive. I specialised in greatswords, but the player can feel free to spec into whatever he likes.
Perks: Barbarian (5/5), Champion's Stance, Deep Wounds (3/3), Great Critical Charge, Sweep, Warmaster
*I chose not to take Devastating Blow as I felt the decapitations portrayed a darker character.

    Block
Not only is your blade a deadly weapon, but a tool you use to great defensive purposes. You are able to focus your mind in the heat of battle so the world around you seems to slow to a crawl. With these superhuman reflexes you are able to find and exploit the weaknesses of your opponent. Whether blocking an enemies blow before moving in for a counter-attack, or throwing your opponent off balance with a well timed bash from the hilt of your sword before dispatching them for their error, your defense is as keen and sharp as your offense.
Perks: Shield Wall (5/5), Quick reflexes

    Heavy Armor
Years spent on the battlefield has conditioned you to using the sturdiest of armors. Becoming more of a second skin, you barely notice the weight as you charge into the middle of the fray. Through rigorous training you've also learned how to control your balance in the thick iron covering your buddy, able to take the heaviest of blows and still maintaining composure to deliver a devastating counter attack!
Perks: All with priority on Conditioning

    Smithing
Born a blacksmiths son, you spent your days tending the forge with your Father, crafting weapons and armor for the Stormcloaks. You learned your trade well and use it to ensure your blade is sharp and your armor ready for battle.
    Perks: Steel to Daedric

    Enchanting
Having no inherent magical ability, you spent hours as a child fascinated by the Court Wizard of Windhelm hunched over his enchanting table. On rare occassion he would have you aid him in his work. You took every opportunity to learn the craft and further refined it during your years abroad during the war, soaking up any knowledge of the art to further enhance your gear
Perks: Enchanter (5/5), Insightful Enchanter, Corpus Enchanter, Extra Effect

    Speech
After the Empire signed the Whit-Gold Concordat you opted to not return to your homeland and instead stayed back in Cyrodiil to try and bring order back to the province. You quickly became known as a man of the people, using kind word and gesture to quell an angry crowd rather than violence. Acting as a diplomat you quickly learned the dangers of politics and how to maneuver them.
Perks: Haggling (5/5), Allure, Merchant, Bribery, Persuasion

    Dragonborn, doin' his thing.

    Gameplay
You returned to Skyrim in hopes of reasoning with Ulfric. The civil war in Skyrim will only weaken both sides, giving the Thalmor the perfect chance to sweep over Tamriel and finish the job. When your negotiations with Ulfric fall through you realize you are going to have to defeat your childhood friend to stop him, and since discovering your new found power as Dragonborn, you now have the ability to do so. However, before you can storm the Palace of The Kings you will need an army of your own. You ally yourself with the Imperials stationed in Skyrim, the honorable Companions, the wise and powerful Mages
Guild, and the Greybeards, who help you hone the power of the voice after you discovered the dormant ability.

Once the war is ended you look to securing the province and eliminating all other threats. You have to fulfill your destiny as Dragonborn and defeat Alduin, investigate the rumors of the Vampire attacks, and battle Miraak, whose return to Solstheim will bring only chaos. The Empire needs to be whole and prepared if it is to survive another attack from the Aldmeri Dominion.

    Combat
The Dovahkiin is a master warrior, who uses the power of the Voice during battle to devastate his enemies. Dragon Aspect is the bread and butter of this build: Increased armor, powerful heavy strikes, shout cooldown reduction, and more powerful shouts all make for a formidable opponent. At the beginning of combat you activate Dragon Aspect before diving into the fray with Great Critical Charge. You can follow up with a Sweeping strike or then activate Elemental Fury and dance around the battlefield, a whirlwind of steel. Fire/frost breath can be used to finish off stragglers or combatting dragons pending the targets weaknesses. Storm Call is utilizeded in larger, outdoor battles (ie: taking over the forts during the civil war quests). During one on one duals you activate Dragon Aspect and close with the opponent, blocking or bashing and then launching your counter attack or utilizing the special moves below before finishing your foe. If a tactical retreat has to be made use Become Ethereal and reposition yourself before charging back into the fray!

    Special Moves

    Onslaught

With Dragon Aspect activated, you bear down on the opponent using Great Critical Charge before blasting the foe with Unrelenting Force, and following up with a second Great Critical Charge.

    Soul Tear*
One of the Dragonborn's most powerful weapons in his arsenal. Given this shouts darker nature it is only used as a finishing move against more dangerous enemies, a fatality if you will. Foes like Ulfric Stormcloack, Alduin, Miraak, Harkon, Ancano, etc.

*I know Soul Tear is an ability anyone can have, I just wanted to highlight it's deadliness and importance to the Dragonborn as a devastating finishing move, reserved for only the most dangerous of enemies and threats to Tamriel.

    Gangster Stance.

Well, there it is. My first build. I plan on doing a darker version of the Dragonborn, complete with a different back story and skill set.

Now, down to business, lube has been applied and position assumed. Bring on the criticism!!!

I like it a lot and I think it is good, but just be warned, some people won't like being told how they should play as the Dovahkiin. anyway + 1 like!

Not too bad actually (most 'Dragonborn' or 'Dovahkiin' builds were pretty crappy). If I may make a suggestion for the backstory, don't use so many exclamation marks. Use them too much and they lose their meaning and makes the story come across as silly (and it really isn't, it's one of the better backstories I've seen for a build).

This is viscous man I love this at first when I read Ulfric's best friend I said another stormcloack build and then I continued and found out that this is possibly the best build on the site IMO. +1

Thank you very much, I'll definitely go back through and shave some of those unnecessary ones out.

Wow 0_o Hahah, thanks for the praise! When I first fired up Skyrim I went with the Stormcloaks during my first play through considering they weren't the ones who tried to have me executed =P But I just couldn't stand the Stormcloaks themselves, but I couldn't hate Ulfric either since he's voiced by Vladimir Kullich hahahah. I found this build and backstory helped me really jump into my character, instead of an all powerful mage who happened to get knocked out during a troop ambush =P Thanks again mate!

Yeah I know, nothing the site hasn't seen before. I kinda hoped to squeak by with a cool story and fancy pics

I like your backstory, but does it really need to be so long? Those last four paragraphs could be condensed into a couple of sentences. But other than that, good build.
