The Samurai, Japan's elite warrior class, the swords were more than just decoration--samurai created hundreds of fighting styles using them, and only the most effective styles survived through tests of combat.

Here is a story about a young couple who were lovers in Skyrim. The young girl was attacked by a man eating Sabrecat who was attacked so badly no matter what her lover tried to do for her it was hopeless and she died. From the depths of his sorrow he went out with bow and arrows to hunt for this Sabrecat in the woods. He searched for days until he saw what was appeared as a sleeping Sabrecat in the distance.

He thought that this was his Sabrecat which had killed his girlfriend. He drew his bow and took careful aim and released the arrow which pierced the Sabrecat’s body very deeply. He approached carefully to confirm the kill….only to find the arrow stuck into a striped stone…which happened to appear like a sleeping Sabrecat.

Since then people have been talking about how he could fire an arrow and pierce a stone. No matter how hard he tried he could not that is because he realised it was a stone. Because his wish for revenge was so strong with the Sabrecat he could pierce the stone. This story is the basis of saying That “A Strong Will Can Pierce Stone”

    KATANA SAMURAI

Blending history with Skyrim history I present the Katana Samurai, on a mission to join the Blades and re-build the culture as they are nearing extinction. The main aspect of the build will be to use the dual-wielding skill as the primary weapon and the bow (later on the Crossbow) for secondary attack usually a long ranged enemy a few shots before they reach you.

The Samurai warriors were honour bound to fight to the death they did not run.

I first played this character just as a Dual wielder/archer that joins the blades but when it got to the part in the main storyline when you find the blades armour and all the Blades swords around I saw the character in a different light and just pictured a Samurai warrior slashing enemies apart. So this character it’s sort of a blend between Japanese history (Samurai) and Skyrim (The Blades). To rebuild the blades to their former glory you can bring followers to join and they will receive the armour and the Blades sword to match and you will work as a team to dispatch your foes be sure to step in if your follower gets hurt.

Build choice - Either named a Katana Samurai (Based on real history)

    Or Blade Warrior (Skyrim History)

However you want the build to take you! Both will require you to Join the Blades because the two are so similar the only real difference is how you see your character and name it accordingly

    The Way of the Warrior

Swordsmanship - One handed (Dual wielding Blade’s swords)

Swordsmanship is the most famous Samurai fighting style, but was far less common than typically depicted. The katana, along with other swords, were mostly symbolic weapons. Samurai were well trained in their use for this reason, but they were less commonly used in actual combat. The nodachi and odachi were long enough to match many spears for range, but so difficult to forge that both were rare. The introduction of firearms made the katana a much more common Samurai fighting style in combat. The value of spears dropped significantly as firearms became more commonly used. Many Samurai chose to simply use the katana in close quarters combat rather than carrying a spear, in addition to their rifle, bow, sword, and any additional weapons. Some Samurai, such as Shingen Takeda, would only carry a katana into battle. This was a demonstration of confidence in their troops rather than a confidence in this weapon. Use Dragonbane when against a Dragon for obvious reasons the blade is designed to do more damage to the Dragon but this sword is not to be used otherwise because it is Enchanted and you can’t use the Elemental Fury shout.

    Archery

Archery was the fighting style of choice for almost the entire history of the Samurai. The Yumi bow, a compound bow, had an effective range of about 50 meters. It could shoot about twice as far, but this was at the expense of accuracy. A Samurai could hit targets with pinpoint precision within the effective range on foot or horseback. Samurai on foot would usually use mobile bamboo walls, called tedate, for cover when using the Yumi. For this style you will use to hit enemies usually far from you not close quarters you will use your primary weapons for that but if need-be you can hit your enemy with your bow and then switch weapon which you can actually use before the 2nd special move Unrelenting force then dual katana’s, awesome way to switch things up. Use a crossbow when you start the Dawnguard the weapon is so much more powerful a tip is to make sure you will hit the target before you fire or else you waste time, in which case I’ve had it where my follower had to take a lot of damage through poor aiming!

    Samurai Armour

Heavy armour/Enchanting – The Samurai usually wore a Horned Helmet but as soon as you get the Blades Armour for appearances it looks a lot more like a Samurai warrior or Blade warrior. For Armour choice the Blades Armour. For Enchantments I generally did not enchant the Armour at first but I did practice on other armours and then sell them just to gain the Enchanting experience so when I enchant my Blades Armour it is a powerful enchantment. I then did defensive enchantments like Fortify Health, Fire resistance, Shock resistance but I did not enchant the weapons only the Bow/crossbow with a Soul trap to gain soul gems.

Healing abilities – Spiritual healing methods having been in battle you meditate and heal yourself, for role-playing purposes you may wish to only heal once the battle is over in which case you have to be extra careful especially against enemies that do high damage. Use both hands to heal if you can then you can heal alot more in one go and get back to the fighting.

Smithing – Your Armour being a Samurai you could afford or make your own Armour the best you possibly can so you can wear it with pride as you give your enemies a good death. Seek to improve any Armour you can find and then sell it to gain your experience up. You do not need many perks in this skill but it is needed to make your Armour and weapons stronger so it’s worth doing usually I sell Armour and buy the materials needed to make Armour to increase the skill for a sharpened weapon.

    Game-play

    Travel

Well for those back in the day they would have had Horses so why not use a horse to travel you can sprint for a while on them even try and master fighting enemies on horseback (Harder than it sounds).

Whirlwind sprint is a great shout for fast movement use with sprinting usually and your amulet of talos to get to your next checkpoint

    Combat

Already explained generally you will use your swords and your ranged weapons its that simple, oh and healing if you need it, but there are certain pointers to get you started on special moves that sort of thing so here are a few moves I learnt/thought were relevant when doing this build.

Elemental fury + 2 blade swords

The main offensive move that will be executed on worthy opponents. Use non dual wielding attacks when Elemental fury has been casted this won’t work if you have enchanted your swords so please don’t do that! Use both attack buttons or mouse clicks to unleash lots of quick strikes at your enemy.

Unrelenting Force + Dual wielding strikes

When your enemy is down from a close Unrelenting Force shout then use your Dual wielding strikes to do huge damage and you won’t be harmed because well, the opponent is down!

Disarm + Crossbow until enemy recovers + Switch back to 2 Blade's swords

The idea of an enemy coming at you say with a strong two handed weapon for a perfect example his weapons gone he is nothing so you can just shoot him until he has recovered only to find him facing your swords again, this is not a finisher move usually but it does injure the enemy and stops him hurting you for a while

Crossbow + Draw swords & then Whirlwind sprint

This move works well on Dragons so definitely equip Dragonbane and one of your other Blade’s swords. When your dragon is landed of course until it does just keep firing away because you are prepared with your healing spells when the Dragon uses his powers.

That is true yes done your homework  they did like to try new things such as buying firearms so i thought, firearms? crossbows? as they had Matchlock Samurai which were long ranged that could fire off volleys before charging in to disorientate the enemy, similar to the way this build fights you start off firing and then switch to the dual blade's swords as you only have your Armour as a defense have to do alot of damage

Don't think anyone likes killing Paarthurnax

Just a suggestion, what about including the ebony blade/ ebony greatsword (not confusing them, they are different) for a two-handed version of the build? Generally samurais wielded their katanas with both hands, except in case of dual-wielding (usually with a shorter sword in the off-hand, and not too common, but not unheard of) or for certain techniques.

Other than that, it's good to know there is a character that follows bushido. Oh, and most I know because I practice kendo, no historical studies, so I don't know much further than this.

Thanks, this did cross my mind when making the build about a two-handed Samurai and they could block with the weapon as they would of done but i thought the idea was too thin no substance other then that i would need guidance as i havn't played many two-handed builds

Of course welcome to make a build of that type though if you feel you could make it unique i would give it a good play-through!

I gave you a +1.  I've seen other samurai builds almost exactly like this one, but picture 5 is one of my most favorite samurai pics evar! I used to use that for all my forum signatures, back when I was still known as Ronin47.  I will also give you that the presentation is fairly nice!

Nay, I think Skyrim isn't too suited for it. The typical samurai combat style wielding with both hands is impossible in Skyrim without mods. Stances, slices, thrusts and other are not available. In the other hand, dual wielding has some more similarities, except for the lack of blocking, and again, stances. Plus, the moving pattern varies, in combat they used to have right foot in the front nearly always in order to build momentum for attacks, have better balance and reflexes. And I've got my own build already, which hasn't been added to any category from CB yet.

And going on with samurai stuff, character could be a ronin, without master, or take one warrior NPC as a mentor. Not common to see any that wasn't in any of those categories.

Did you only use imperial for the extra coins? Seems you could use other racials to far more effect.
