Call Sign: Senior Scribe Marlow
Location: Far Harbor
Assignment: Operation Beasts of America
Date: 10-17-2287
Elder Maxson and Senior Scribes,
Introduction:
As expected, both the diversity and tenacity of the beasts in Far Harbor varies significantly from our findings in the Commonwealth mainland. We’ve had 2 of our 5 knights injured and forced back to the holding zone in town during our 2-week reconnaissance. The radioactive fog has made power armor an absolute must.
Beast Study: “Fog Crawler”
This filing is in regards to the most troubling discovery I’ve had since embarking on this mission. In the deep fog we stumbled upon what we are classifying as a “Fog Crawler.”
Initial observations:
The creature appears to be a mutated cross between a shrimp and a preying mantis. This abomination of nature is staggering in size and has been observed to be in excess of 40 feet tall, dwarfed only by our scribe’s reports on Mirelurk Queens and Behemoths. There are 8 eyes, pincer like claws and no discernable mouth. They have heavily armored exteriors.
Attack Pattern:
We've observed the Fog Crawler fighting with various other local beasts, and during our skirmishes while on recon we have noticed several moves specific to their fighting style. It mainly uses it's two pincer arms in Melee as well as it's spiky head; on occasion it may utilize a devastating area of effect body slam. Be aware, for their size they are considerably quick!
Weaknesses:
It appears the Fog Crawler’s has no form of ranged combat. In testing, our energy based attacks seem slightly more effective than ballistic weapons. Be advised, the more advanced types seem to have an enormous amount of resistance and health and require care, tactics and extreme weaponry. All variants are immune to both radiation and posion. The use of Fat Man mini nukes has been utilized in extreme cases.
Variants:
As our party approached an outer settlement known locally as Dalton Farm, a “Glowing” variant was found and eliminated. This led us to the following variant classifications: Ghostly, Glowing, Skulking, Pale, Enraged and Diseased. One known Legendary Variant exists in tale only. A local informant named Longfellow has detailed and nicknamed this most disturbing revelation “Shipbreaker”.
Conclusion:
These findings confirm our deep fear that the radioactive fog here is likely enhancing both the nature and aggression of the beasts in Far Harbor. Patrols dispatched here should be heavily armed and armored.
An additional note of concern - there is a rumor of local rogue Synth operations. Please advise on further investigation or resumption of original mission.

These things are terrifying on Survival, especially when they are legendary. I was unlucky enough that the glowing one at Dalton Farm happened to spawn legendary, I think I spent more time running for my life then actually shooting the beast.

I went against one thinking it's gonna be a piece of cake. Let's just say I had to reload the save. Also, can I hope to see an article from you, Goldie?

Ugh! As if a preying mantis wasn't freaky-lookin' enough! I like how the best tactic seems to be "kill it with fire." Heavy fire. From far away.

Funny you should mention is - the legendary "Seargent Ash" is an excellent choice as its knee-capping effect will cripple the beast and make him totally useless. Probably should add that in....
