I considered it, but it felt rather redundant seeing as it requires a significant amount of charging for just one use, and going through a whole LONG questline for a mildly useful shield just did not cut it for me.

Yet you go through the DB for 1 sword... the shield would fit the theme :P

Meh... The sword is incredibly useful and DB is not as tedious as DG... :/

But it seems like DG would be way more RP friendly, whereas DB shits all over your theme of righteousness.  The Windshear causing enlightenment is actually a really nice idea but the entire build would need to be restructured around that transition IMO.

I also like the idea of protecting the roads, I feel like alot of people probably don't walk the roads of skyrim enough, concentrating on the destination rather than the journey.

Yeah I got that part wrong, should have worked it in with the enlightenment and everything, but I am done with the build, I am with what it is right now.

Could you play the Songbird and this in one playthrough? Maybe with Legendary-ing the different skill trees?

You would be able to if you went from the Songbird to the Windwalker.

I don't know if you are on PC or not, but there is an excellent mod that adds Wind Destruction Magic into the game. I highly recommend it, as it's a lot of fun
