How 'Critical Damage' for swords works in Skyrim

Hmmm... Another helpful tip that might in fact change the mechanics of one of my exsisting build, the battlemage sellsword. Glitched not withstanding, the "flame flutter" mentioned by Alastor might then actually replace the spell based melee range mechanic into sort of a arcane "1-2" Ie: off hand flame, main hand thunderbolt. 1-2 arcane combo till magicika runs dry , summon bound sword in main hand for "1-2" with flames and re-sub back to thunderbolt when magicians regens to max.

It's a somewhat daunting task lol

James, I have a question about this sentence:

If you don't have any Bladesman perks then Critical Charge will use the BASE critical damage rating for it's calculation; unfortunately this means having only the first rank of Bladesman will give us zero benefit when using charge.

I'm curious if you meant zero ranks in Bladesman.  According to what you wrote earlier, having one rank in Bladesman should give you a 10% chance to do BASE critical damage and the critical charge should then make it a 100% chance to do BASE critical damage, no? Or is Bladesman rank 1 bugged in that it never changes the critical multiplier from 0.0 meaning whether you use critical charge or not you're never doing any extra critical damage (i.e. you get the "critical hit" notification but it's meaningless because of the 0.0 multiplier).

    Clarification would be greatly appreciated!

Appologies for taking so long to respond.  I can certainly see how this is confusing.

The first rank of Bladesman gives us only a modifier to the CHANCE for a critical attack and does nothing to increase the damage; With the first perk we will do a critical attack that does BASE critical damage 10% of the time.  This becomes pointless when using Critical charge because we will be doing a critical attack (with a 2x damage multiplier) 100% of the time and since the first rank of bladesman only deals with chance, rather than extra damage, the 10% chance from the perk is rendered useless since we're already guaranteed a 100% chance from charge.

Having the first rank of Bladesman isn't worthless since it gives us the 10% chance on all other attacks, it's only rendered redundant when used along with charge.

    I hope that makes sense.

Is this in regards to the Critical Charge/Silent Roll move? I might try to do some testing on it but if I had to guess, I think the Crits are applied separately from all other damage and are affected by AR. The Sneak multiplier is probably applied only to the weapon/unarmed damage. Another thing I've been meaning to check, when a Critical Charge+Silent Roll is performed, do both the Sneak Bonus and Critical Bonus text show up onscreen? Not that the bonus can't be applied without text but something I've wondered. It really shouldn't be too hard to test with the Waking Dreams Black Book completed.

I swear for the life of me I can't get this critical charge rolling thing to work for me!  I've seen videos of people doing it, kinda, but I just can't seem to get it to work properly.

From what I've gather what seems to be happening is you go into the roll animation then into the 'Charge' animation; the confusing on this move, for me, seems to come from the fact you aren't actually combining the moves rather than just chaining them.  If this is the case then the damage equation would just follow the one for Critical Charge and not be boosted by sneak attack modifiers.

I honestly can't give an opinion on this as of right now, it's something I'll hopefully look into eventually but there's a few other topics I need to do first.

Interesting, so Bladesman increases critical damage done in Critical Charge. Then I'm curious, does Bladesman then increase the Critical Charge critical damage of non-swords? Intuitively it wouldn't, but then before today it seemed obvious to me Bladesman couldn't affect Critical Charge.
