For all you paladin or just good aligned players out there it is more or less possible to get a semi good ending for this quest. Simply get to Logrulf, free, and then kill him. Quest failed, but Molag is foiled.

A paladin is supposed to protect the weak. And even though Logrolf worships Boethia, he's pretty much as helpless as it gets. Why don't you just trap him and walk away? Molag can't kill him personally, he needs a champion to do it for him. The evil weakling spends the rest of his days in a cage, Molag Bal gets psyched, and you can go on with your business.

"Morally correct" doesn't always mean it's the "good and correct" thing to do. Why? Because there is no light without darkness. Sometimes even great men and women must steep to low levels for the greater good. Sometimes life forces a choice between greater and lesser evils. Sometimes you must accept that some evils are necessary so that good may ultimately triumph. But if you are thinking morally correct = good guy, then the very act of refusing to kill a priest of Boethia contradicts you.

Right, you can't use the player's out-of-game knowledge to avoid the quest. A Vigilant asks the character for help investigating a house where daedra worship might be occurring, with nothing but that knowledge, you can't just say "I won't do it because it will end with me serving Molag Bal".

Yeah, I actually failed this quest on Aelberon's playthrough. The Boethiah priest has done some pretty nasty stuff too and I don't see a Paladin not stopping to help Tyranus right away. Boy does he pack a whallop in Requiem.

Chris, I thank you for this. I was pondering how to defy every Daedric Prince in my Ebony Warrior build to reflect the Daedra-hating side of Ebonarm.
