A Proposition Relating To the 24-Hour Post Cycle

Recently, I've encountered a little wrinkle that, while not truly detrimental, still bothers me quite a bit. Why is it that you can only post one blog post every 24 hours? I understand that spamming the Tamriel Vault with a single person's stories and poems is a big no-no, but I feel like imposing such a limit stifles creativity. If I've finished a story or poem, why have it sit on my computer until an arbitrary amount of time passes?

What I propose, rather than having people wait 24 hours for each blog post, have it be three or so per day. I know that most people will never reach this limit. I'm the first to admit my writing is a bit manic-paced, compared to most, so I'd be one of the few that could feasibly reach the limit. Even so, I doubt I could post three posts a day, every day- or anyone, for that matter. Writing takes time, and I feel that three posts a day is a reasonable amount.

Of course, this is only what I think. Feel free to discuss in the comments, and tell me why you agree or disagree, or any alternate ideas you may have. Thanks for reading!

I get ya, and having never really posted blogs all that much I can only say it might be a good thing to have the material absorbed and reflected on by the readers. It's like Netflix. I will binge the hell out of stuff I need to catch up on but it isn't as enticing and enthralling as a show I need to wait a week for the next episode.

It´s not really about one person spamming the Blog activity. You have to realise that we can see only 10 Blog Posts, so if you post 3 short stories a day, another person posts 2, another one 3, than a person who wrote tusking 13,000 words long chapter of awesomeness will get buried by 8 posts with only few of them having nearly 1,000 words.

I have a proposition for you, and people who like to pump out chapters every day. Write longer chapters.

A fair point. But, at least IMO, it should be down to the author how he or she wants to present their story. And perhaps to the reader, as well, though I get that it's a bit difficult to restrain yourself like that.

That's a really good point, actually... Hadn't considered that. At the same time, though, I still stand by my points on how the 'post a day' formula is a bit stifling. But, you raise a very good point, as I mentioned earlier, and it's something I'll be keeping in mind.

Also, writing really long chapters is... Difficult, for me. I'm not good at 'stretching out' things, and I usually get to the actual story when I write. Not that long chapters are a bad thing, though. This is something I'm working on, to be honest.

In short, thanks for the input, Ksrver!

Well, the Blog Posts are basicaly the only way how writer can get his/hers time in the spotlight. We have that section showing ten items. Anything shorter buries posts quite quickly. Anything longer clusters the main page, and there are other things we want people to see there. Sure, you can bump your ToC or leave a comment in Story Corner that you posted a new chapter but that isn't hanging there for days, right? And as I said. Try to imagine someone spent weeks writing a chapter, he posts it and then several guys with poems show up and your chapter is just gone, buried under something else. This rule isn't in place to limit writers, but to be fair to all and give them all their time in the spotlight.

    Two things:

First, I really see where you're coming from, and in many ways I agree with that point. As I said, this hadn't occurred to me. But while I feel that my original proposition would, indeed, be detrimental to newer writers without established fanbases (which I consider myself to be, for the record), I still can't help but feel that the current system is flawed. Seeing as how I'm not actually proposing anything else, I will deal with said current system if no other ideas pop up.

Second... You can bump your ToC and post in the Story Corner? I did not know that.

I agree it might be flawed. But so far it is the only system that seems to be mostly immune to people abusing it.

And yeah, you can definitely bump your ToC and comment in Story Corner about your new Chapters. That´s how it worked in old days when there wasn´t a section of Blog Posts on the main page, and it´s still in place.

The 1 post a day rule may be a bit stifling and I am all for creative activity but what I strongly stand for is an opportunity for each and every member of The Story Corner to have their work shared with everyone else. Now there are a few difficulties in decreasing the blog postings to say a 12 hour window.

Some days we have a 5 post day. Five separate members posting their work in a single day. Some may have a few pieces which they could post in this time. Do we open the blogs for chapters of stories to two a day and not poems?

Reason I ask this is because I know for a fact that some members can seemingly chuck out quality poems faster than I can catch and kill a deer on the plains. I’ve seen them do it on a poem event.

If we reduce the posting times to even just 2 a day then we can open ourselves to more misery than good. I myself would be often able to add at least 1 to 2 chapters a day if I made my chapters no greater than 1000 words.

We also need to look at quality. If I blankly ignore quality in my own work then I can at this moment post 200 chapters. I’m not joking here either, I’m editing through 200 chapters of work.

Chapters don’t have to be long or short, but maybe chapter length could be increased by simply joining the two chapters together as one? Then it won’t be a case of spacing out a chapter so it’s longer.

Another point which fortifies my position is there isn’t a single post which goes up that I do not read. It’s not often I do this but I’ll speak as a host now.

I am a Host of The Story Corner. I have a duty to read every post that is put up. Why? Control of content firstly. I need to know that any material posted is suitable for the blog. There was a member who posted something and once I read it I asked that they down tone it due to its content. I myself have had content down toned so it is not as offensive. If we increase the content then posts will be missed and content slipped through.

I would hate for the whole site to be closed down because explicit material posted slipped through and voided Ning’s terms.

Secondly I read everyone’s posts because I like reading them. Having too many of one persons work will be detrimental to the member whose work has been knocked off.

I feel more members will benefit from the 24 hour than those who would benefit form say a 12 hour window.

Partner in crime here at The Story Corner and I agree on this. I am currently editing about 90 chapters that haven't been published yet.

I look forward to reading what comes up too. If we lift this rule, then I may risk missing blogs. I am already behind because I had rehearsals and concerts this weekend. I make it a point to read most, if not all the blogs that come out, jut like Sotek above, to ensure that bloggers get the support that they need. LOL, I couldn't keep up if blogs were allowed every 12 hours and I read super fast.
