So...It seems that some are a bit hung up on what the NPC is carring when you meet them. Like Frea wearing heavy armor even though she is more skilled in light armor usage (no offense Aysleph i'm just using your example because it's the most recent). I really don't understand this hang up, just becaouse someone is wearing heavy armor, or carring a big sword, does not mean they have to know how to use it, and the reverse would also be true. I wear clothes everyday but I'm not a tailor or seemstress or whatever you call them, I use a fork and knife everyday but I'm not a chef and can barely make boxed mac&cheese. We meet the characters of Skyrim at different times in their lives, i'm sure there are reasons why they aren't optimally equipped for their skill set.
I know that in some instances the skills just don't match up with the character, like Neloth and Enchanting that's why we made the amendment to rule 2. As far as skills that don't match their starting equipment, well you can just equip your follwer appropriatley in game why not roleplay the same way. To use Frea as an example once more, She is on the war path when you meet her so she armed herself appropriatly for that task. Sure she has better lt armor skill but look at her choices Skal armor vs. Nordic armor, even with a little bit of lt armor skill Nordic is going to be better protection. I would think she is more interested in staying alive on her mission then being comfortable.
