So, I dont know if I can call this one a "Work in Progress" yet, but Im posting because I'd like a little help on what I think could be an interesting RP play.

Ok, here goes:   The Sole Survivor comes out of cryostasis, and, disoriented, confused, heads out of Vault 111.  Shortly meets with Codsworth, who informs them that they've been frozen for 200 YEARS?!   Dismayed, dejected, the Sole Survivor wanders toward Concord, surely their son must be dead.  After arriving in Concord, meeting the horror that the Commonwealth called the Raiders, the Sole Survivor, after meeting up with the Settlers in the Museum, decides not to help them, knowing nothing about them or their true goals.

Being told about Diamond City, the Sole Survivor begins wandering, meeting nothing but Mongrels, Raiders, Super Mutants...everywhere, everything, even other people, everyone was trying to kill everyone else.  Until he found Covenant.  They were nice...strangely nice, but friendly, clean...they asked for nothing from the Sole Survivor, yet gave him hospitality, a warm bed, a safe night.

After meeting with Dan, the Sole Survivor decided to help him, and find out the secret of this missing caravan, leading them to the Compound.   Eventually meeting with Dr Chambers, the Sole Survivor learned of the Institute.  Kidnapping people, replacing them with synthetic spies...what if...what if..that Kellogg was part of the Institute?  What if it was the Institute that killed my spouse, and stole my son....if we even found our son..how would we know if they even really our son, what if they had been replaced by one of these synthetic impostors?

And so, the Sole Survivor decided to betray Honest Dan, and support the Compound, and Covenant.

So, this character is going to be a person who supports Covenant.  The first settlement they get will be Covenant, they will hate Synths, and actively make choices and actions AGAINST synths, such as in random encounters.

Im thinking they will use Covenant Armor (can you even get any without killing a Compound Guard?),  Automatic Weapons (maybe in the Combat Rifle variety), Dogmeat as a Companion (the only friendly creature the SS met that didnt seem to want anything from the SS, just to be friendly with them).

The Part I need help with is some of the various details.  Given this backstory, do you think this character would be willing to set up new settlements, make new Covenants?  Im thinking if they sided with any factions, it'd probably be the Brotherhood, given their mutual view on Synths.

Im thinking maybe a high endurance (because the Covenant Armor is pretty weak), high Agility, maybe around Midrange Charisma and Intelligence, Low Strength and Luck (I mean, losing your spouse and kid while frozen because you were betrayed by corporations after the apocalypse, thats some pretty bad luck).

What do you guys think of the general build (once I've created a character like this, I'd probably flesh this out a bit)

Torbin my friend! Happy to see you working on this, sorry I did not respond earlier but its harder to give good feedback until I get on a real computer with a keyboard so I can properly help.

First off, I really like the idea of the build. I think Covenant is under represented in the builds and really an interesting angle to build from and given what the player character has to go through not an unreasonable group to join up with.

As far as some of your questions. I don't know of anyway to get the covenant guard armor in the game other than to kill someone. You could try to covertly kill someone for it..... Other than that perhaps a mod might add it. I am pretty sure you can make it using the armorsmith mod that gives you the workbench to make armor pieces from scratch. You could also console command it if on the PC, super easly solution there. You'll have to do some more testing with that one. Perhaps someone knows another option I didn't mention.

I like your other ideas for gear, really fit the build. I really like the picture in my head of a Covenant Guard with an assault rifle, just a big beefy commando style character.

Given your background I think you -could- go with settlements for sure. They could very easily see the opportunity to take over the Minutemen and use them to go anti-synth on the Commonwealth. Definatly can go anti Railroad as well and just kill them when able. I can also see them going Brotherhood as well. It really depends on if you want to build a bunch of settlements. Luckily you don't have to choose for your build. Give people options. I often put several "paths" in my builds where you could go lightside or darkside on the Wasteland while still playing the same backstory, skills, and general roleplay. Really boils down to your character wanting to kill synths no matter the cost.....or try to win over people to Covenant's flag and join them vs burning down the Commonwealth.

I like the options you have so far for skills, high endurance and high agility is something I don't see too often. Don't write off luck too quick though, that could work well if you want to play with some VATS perks and go that route. Some people love VATS and doing a VATS build can result in insane damage with criticals. Don't feel you need to do that though. If you want to give the settlement option decent charisma for local leader is a must though.

One last idea I thought of you could play with is perhaps making this into a power armor build. Not sure if you like power armor but it could shore up a lot of your issues with the armor as it is underneath and who cares about the stats of the armor or the modifications on it when you are encased in thick steel plates and servos. Could be a fun twist to put on the build and really tie into a Brotherhood alliance with the "Iron Covenant" guardian and defender. Remember if you go Brotherhood for the main story you keep the Minutemen and can still be the general and build up settlements too.

Some food for thought I hope! Good luck!

Hmm...I kinda like that idea.  Especially if its the Male SS, he could decide to use his special set of skills, his specialized training working with Power Armor, to protect Covenant and it's Ideals.

Another thing I was thinking of with the Armor is using Diamond City Guard armor instead, it's somewhat easy to get at least a partial set (from that first initial fight between the DC Guards and Super Mutants at the intersection before Diamond City, if you go there pretty early, and dont get involved, at least one of the Guards usually dies)  and it does look pretty similar to the Covenant Armor, it could be considered "Special" armor for their important Outside Operative.

My best advice for armor would be to come up with something that works for the "uniform" for your settlements. It could be DC guard armor. It could be other combat armor, or even just vault-tec armor which I think is a bit easier to get. Check out the wiki for clothes and armor and see what looks good. Marine armor from Far Harbor strikes me as a really nice combat commando armor that I don't see often despite being really nice looking. Also gives you access to top tier armor that isn't power armor if you don't want to go the power armor route. The Recon set is pretty pricey but some good legendary effects.

Interesting concept. I like that the character actually feels the effects of what happened to him prior to being released in the wasteland.

Yeah to piggy back on AMO - the Covenant armor is a Vault Tec Security Armor variant. So I can totally see you setting up multiple settlements - cleaning them up like Covenant and having your guards in valut tec gear to mimc the style.

As for factions, I have a hard time seeing this character as a BOS guy. I get the hate of synths connection, but MM seem a better fit if you're going settlement rebuild style.

I'd work on the title of the build too. I actually like something you already wrote: "The New Covenant"

Make it almost like a faction build ya know?

Anyway - cool stuff. looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

I agree with the Factions, the more I work on this character, the less he seems like BoS material, since the Compound works to purposely better the Commonwealth as a whole, for everyone (regardless of what we think about their actual process and actions, thats at least their intention)
