So The Magick that is the source of the eye's power is what? Electricity? That doesn't make any sense. Sounds like people trying to tie Fallout to Elder Scrolls to me, but to each their own. Seriously, though if it is an AI from the future than how is it that an artifact from the past is the key to open it? (The Staff of Magnus) I'm confused...

The existance of magic in the world doesn't mean that in the future of the same world people would not invent machines, electricity etc. They would, and their machines would use magic))

Sotha Sil's deal is that he is an architect of Time and a binder of Oblivion who is trying to mantel Magnus. If he wanted to send the Clockwork City back in time, or make it exist in all times, then I'm pretty sure he could. Also, this is the Clockwork City:
It's within an unfinished constantly moving frame (like a clock) very similar to the Eye of Magnus. Now if you used some pieces of Aetherium as it's shell and carved runes of a "language that's not been invented yet" into it and what do you have? In Sotha Sil's Truth in Sequence he consistantley mestions the "Eye of Sotha Sil".
Also, this is one of the power batteries for it:
I'm sure other people have other theories but I like this one the best.

It looks very Dwemer.
What exactly (or at least approximately) was that city's purpose? Surely it wasn't just to show how badass Sotha Sil was?

It does, but much more advanced.
The city is a capital T Tower like White-Gold and Adamantia. Seht is using it to reshape Nirn in the future as well as the past.

Doesn't seem to be. Not directly anyway. You can find out more about Sotha Sil and his plans in Lore:The Truth in Sequence: Volume 1. And I'm sure we will get more info in the upcoming Clockwork City DLC when we get to go back.

Ah, I see. IMO, out of the three, he is the only one worthy of respect. However this text shows that he also sees just one side. After all, thinking that you know and understand more than Anu is unlikely to bring any good results))
Btw, I have a slight suspicion that your theory and Kirkbride's text don't really contraudict each other.

I've been inside a portion of Clockwork City in the Halls of Fabrication trial. I won't spoil anything for you, but Sotha Sil is a mad genius. The more I learn about him, the more intrigued I become.
