    I’m Batman!!

And you are too, as you don the mantle of this iconic superhero in Batman: Arkham Asylum.

To start the game off you are escorting the Joker back to the asylum. During the lengthy introduction as you move further and further into the bowls of the crazy house you’ll meet Warden Quincy Sharp a.k.a Warden Idiot, according to Joker, Commissioner Gordon, Killer Croc and a whole host of guards that will not likely see out the end of the night.

Problems begin shortly after Joker is taken out of your sight; he has broken free of his handler and with the help of Harley Quinn released all the inmates who instantly wreak havoc. You are now tasked with fighting through wave after wave of the Joker’s goons while chasing the manic mastermind.

Along the way you’ll come into confrontation with many of Batman’s enemies. Zsasz is first up for starters, shortly followed by scarecrow, Bane, Harley Quinn, Killer Croc, Poison Ivy, and then the Joker himself. In amongst all these star studded appearances you have to fight your way past thugs, armed goons, snipers, stunners, loons, and quite a few TITAN infected inmates.

But have no fear (cause you’re Batman!) and you have all his cool toys at your disposal to help you clean up Arkham.

Standard Issue Batarangs (upgrade to throw more)
Batclaw (good use for pulling down walls, grids and goons
Explosive gel (need I say more?)
Grapleline (good for getting across large gaps/Killer croc infested water…)
Sonic Batarang (gets those bad guys to stand right where you want them)
Remote controlled Batarang (hey if you get bored you can play catch with yourself :D)
Computer hack thingy (good for doors and bombs)

As the night moves on the plot thickens and finally it is revealed that Joker was having one of the Doctors create a new strain of the venom Bane feds off called TITAN to create, you guessed it a super mutant army to take over Gotham! Things get really interesting when Joker feeds the formula to Poison Ivy causing her plants to mutate and take over the whole island.

The whole thing comes to a conclusion with a big party – Joker style. Everyone wants to dance with Batman and Joker does some drugs, resulting in a massive hangover and Batman with a sore hand.

So that’s the game in a nutshell but that’s not all there is to Batman. Riddler decides to crash his communications early on challenging Batman to solve all his riddles and collect his trophies scattered all across the island, all 240 of them.

Some things I liked about the game.

I’m Batman (sorry couldn’t resist that one)
The game is loosely based around the 1989 graphic novel, Arkham Asylum : A Serious House on Serious Earth
It's classic Batman all dark and grimy
There are tons of collectables on the characters , facts and bios from the comic books.
The random Banter from the Joker to Batman through-out the game is quite entertaining.
Scarecrow has to be the best boss.

So now I’ve told you about the game and what I liked, let’s talk about Batman: Arkham Asylum.

I liked the stealthy aspect of the game, challenging myself to take out an entire room of goons without one of them spotting me, only the unconscious bodies I left behind.

This game rose the bar for all future super hero games. It's one of the first titles that imbues you with the strengths of one of your favorite heros. They way you move, stun and tackle the objectives is just how Batman would and the combat is one of the best examples. The extra bits and pieces to collect and find add plenty of longevity and compliment the villian splattered main story perfectly. The flexibility to stealth your way or to break bones is totally upto you and Im not ashamed to say "I'm Batman" a few times aswell.

One of the best titles Ive played in recent years.

Yeah stealthing a whole room and leaving the guys hanging is a top feeling especially as the other guards heart rates slowly increase to the point they start jumping n screaming lol Equally I would love being surrounded by 20 guys and ninjaing them all with the brutal combat lol

I remember the first time I saw one of those guys charging towards me. A quick flick of a batarang and I dove out the way. The simplest of actions made me go I'm Batman lol

heheh its always fun to fling batarangs at goons faces. i just like throwing them from at top the gargoyles (my favourite place to perch hehe) and watching the little minions sprawl across the floor like a puppet with its strings cut much to the confuse of his little pals.

Would you recommend playing this before Arkham City, if you haven't played either yet?

Definitely Arkham City is an evolution of key mechanics like combat and gadgets. The story continues from the end of the first one as well. It is a top game you will enjoy arkham city all the more.

yes, I'm with Guy on this one, Batman: AC is a direct sequel and the plot will make you go huh?? if you try to play it first.

speaking of Batman: AC anyone else found the Easter egg for it in the Arkham Asylum? I thought it was pretty neat :D

Is it wrong if im still scared of the scarecrow levels to this day, even though im 15? That one scene where he is talking to his dead parents and opens the third bodybag and Scarecrow pops out still makes me shit bricks.
