  It's a little awkward replying to this thread now, but if you talk to Tova Shatter-Shield after realizing you need to get into Hjerim and then talking to the steward, you can get her to give you the key. Which should do the trick nicely.

  I don't think there is a way to finish Laid to Rest without lockpicking or pickpocketing the key. And I have never been able to get by without a single assault. Sometimes I can't figure out who I allegedly assaulted. I think the stats lie.

  I solved the Calixto problem. I gave him a light spray of flames and the game didn't pick up on it, but it was enough to agitate him :)
