dawnguard PS3 update: release looks unlikely

    bethesda statement

Earlier in the month, we provided an update on Dawnguard's status for PS3. It's been a few weeks, and we wanted to make sure everyone knows where we're at with Dawnguard. Skyrim is a massive and dynamic game that requires a lot of resources, and things get much more complex when you're talking about sizable content like Dawnguard. We have tried a number of things, but none of them solve the issue enough to make Dawnguard good for everyone. The PS3 is a powerful system, and we're working hard to deliver the content you guys want. Dawnguard is obviously not the only DLC we’ve been working on either, so the issues of adding content get even more complicated. This is not a problem we’re positive we can solve, but we are working together with Sony to try to bring you this content. We wish we had a more definitive answer right now. We understand the frustration when the same content is not available on all platforms. When we have an update, we will certainly let you know. We deeply appreciate all the time and support you have given us, and we’ll keep doing our best to return that.

the latest statement from Bethesda painst a bleak picture for PS3 players, the wording does indeed make it seem unlikely we will ever get it: "This is not a problem we’re positive we can solve". They have tried in this to plame the PS3 system itself saying they cannot deal with adding new content to the existing content. They ended it by saying that basically they have no definitive idea when, if ever, dawnguard will be released....

Big shock. If Bethesda fails to do so that's fine, they just lost a customer.

Nah. I've countless games on the PS3 that I don't think have had problems like this, while one Bethesda game that has.

Actually there are more and more developers that have problems with Playstation, it's not developer friendly and you'll notice that just about all ports to ps3 are inferior, if they get ported at all.

Honestly why don't they patch the things in slowly... like give us Vamp Lord and Lycan perk trees with the Dragon Bone items and go from there... make it a small DLC for like... $1.99 and when they fix the bugs make the Dawngaurd DLC for $5-10 or give us hearthfire for free and make it worth our time... or they could drop some members off their other projects for a week or two and fix this shit like reasonably thinking people would....

If they can't make it work with help from Sony themself I doubt that more people on it will change something. It's probarly something with the software from Sony themself instead of the actual DLC.

I know I don't understand how the system truly works but i guess i'm very agitated and feel like theres more they could be doing...

Wow! Knowing Bethesda's reluctance to say anything at all until they have something definite to say, I'd say this as close to confirmation that Dawnguard won't ever come out on PS3 as we are likely to get.

I'd also expect that we won't see future Elder Scrolls titles on PS3. It will IMO be PC and XBox only from this point forward.

I play on PC and PS3 (+ we have an XBox in the house too) so I've no particular axe to grind. But I really do feel for those members of this site who are Ps3 only

Something tells me the need for this Job entails dealing with Sony.

I completely agree with those predictions, unless maybe the new playstation will be easyer for them to work with in some way, although that's not likely to happen.

Me thinks you may be right about the dlc for ps3 unfortunately but i sincerely doubt it will have anything to do with the ps4 coming next year the elderscrolls will be on the ps4 in its next outing

Tis all very unfortunate. Sad times indeed!

I'll hold out though, I still believe Bethesda won't miss their chance to release the shiny 'Game of the Year' version of Skyrim on PS3. Should get everything bundled into one neat package with that.

I get the feeling they just bit off more than they could chew with the Microsoft contract, having to prioritise work for one system to honour a contract is bound to leave the other systems trailing behind somewhat.
