Hyldes Journal - Entry III - Settling In Riverwood

  • Seeing my cousin Faendal inspired such warmth and comfort in me. Suddenly the horrible events at the border and in Helgen seemed so long gone. He had'nt even noticed the dragon fly by as he was busy working for the sawmill in Riverwood. When he saw me, he immediately put down his woodaxe and came to me. He was pleased to invite me inside his little house, where he had emptied a chest and made room for my bedroll near the fireplace.
There will certainly not be enough room in this chest, for all the books that I am going to collect, but it is a start. Also, I am counting on the Royal Currier of Falinesti to arrive in Riverwood at least once every two months. He should bring home the most valued titles for safekeeping.

As Faendal had to finish his work, I was left alone in the little house for about an hour. This was an ideal time for writing a report on my arrival at the agreed location.
The quitness was suddenly overwhelming, as it let all the memories and impressions of the past days flood my mind.
It was less than 20 hours since I had left the safety of my royal transport, and entered an incident which could have led to my death, only to be "saved" by the arrival of a gruesome dragon that had teared Helgen apart.
My terrifying flashbacks where suddenly interupted by a blunt sound next to me. I reacted on it as if i was a rabbit being chased by a wolf, only to discover that it was Faendal comming through the door.
    Ofcourse. I was safe now.

Faendal cooked our dinner while he calmed my nerves with talk of our shared childhood memories. I was hungry and tired but we had so much to talk about.
While we ate, I told him about the trip and explaining what had happened in Helgen. He did'nt show much sign of agitation, but he did stop his chewing for a second when I told him about the dragon. He said that I should probably warn the Jarl of Whiterun. We both looked out the window - it was definitly too late to go now. I had to wait until dawn. As Faendal cleaned up the woodplates we had been eating from, I snuck into my bedroll.
I fell alseep listening to the comforting noice of Faendals rustling.

I see now, it's cool then. One thing that might add to the blog is maybe put a date for each entry? Like xx of Last Seed 4E or something like that?

Hyldes is well educated in terms of reading and writing, that combined with her bosmeri "romantic" approach of life makes her write in a poetic way. About the dialogs - I don't want much direct dialog since its not ment to be direct fiction. When I write,...  more

Nice work, Hydes! One thing that I find a little out of place in your writing is how you describe certain events. I mean, if I was writing a journal I would not make it colorful like, for example, your last paragraph. Such thing can be expected of a write...  more
