The Doyen - Chapter 1 Part 1

  • The Doyen

It's been a fortnight since I left my men and beloved unit that I served so many years. With no family left to speak of I boarded a wagon,  I was headed to Skyrim to begin my retirement. I was hoping to find work as a Blacksmith in one of the towns to earn my coin. It was hard getting used to being called anything other than “Captain Snow-Bear” but I you can’t fight forever. I have watched many of my comrades make their way to Sovngarde, but here I am with grey hair filling my beard. My discharge was due to an injury I received cleaning up a bandits den outside of Bravil. I lost 3 good men that day and my left eye. I would have rather keep on wearing the uniform than taking the merger coin I received. After the injury I knew I must head to my homeland Skyrim for my early retirement and live out my days at a forge. I was still young enough to take a wife and maybe if the Divines be good I could father children. For many years my shield was my wife and my axe was my name sake.  I ponder how quickly time moves very quickly after you swear your oaths and play war. I wouldn’t change a thing other than raising my shield instead of believing that bandits plea for me to yield. I can have a fresh start and enjoy mending the armor and swords of the warriors I so bravely spilled blood with. I had heard the talk in the taverns of the civil war that was ripping Skyrim apart and also of the huge shadows in the sky.   I never listened to the tales of the common folk because of their narrow view of the world. I have survived not counting bar fights at least one hundred fielded battles. I loved to be the center of battle in the vanguard. You were never supposed to walk away but somehow I had. I wonder if a battle hardened blacksmith can carve out a seat  in the afterlife by hammering a weapon instead of wielding it.

Nice start. Remove the bold from the text and maybe add more to the story? Or you intend this to be a sort of prologue for the main story? Try to have around 800 words in the blog at the very least, otherwise it looks short.
