Lady Mara, Loving Divine

  • Lady Mara, Loving Divine

    Who on Lady Mara thinking,

would not feel her holy love?

    Who on Lady Mara looking,

would not see a blessed dove?

    Oh sweet Mara, loving Divine,

Save the world from evil's snares.

    Lady Mara, love doth shine,

    From your holy loving cares.

Come to me, oh Lady Mara,

    to remember the fathers' ways.

Mother, let not me be scarred,

in the tempest of worldly ways.

Mara's verse: "Come to me, Mara, for without you, I might forget the ways of our fathers, and preening by the light of latest fashion, my words might tremble like the thin reeds of novelty in the tempest of enthusiasms."

I wrote this thinking about Mara, and the Virgin Mary. Mara is quite similar to the Blessed Virgin, and I thought a poem may express Mara's love quite well. Hope you like it.

The verse is from PGE 3Ed. No wonder it's nonsense!

Personally I think your interpretation of the verse is quite good. To me the last part definitely speaks of convictions. That last section refers to the tempest of enthusiasms. This probably refers to, as you said, fads. Novelty wears off quickly and chan...  more

Are you saying this is a Bethesda piece? I don't recall seeing it before, which shames me.

It makes no sense to me, this last part. I don't quite know wh...  more

Well, I am not sure the exact meaning intended by Bethesda, but what you have said is partly correct.
It obviously has the connotation of remembering honoured traditions as you said, and the next part is the passings fads making people fickle or wea...  more
