About Two Different Ends: Your Opinion is Important

    Hello everyone,

Medieval here, let me ask you something, what end would you prefer, what end do you think is more interesting?

Imagine a character who have strong concepts and devotion for what he believes, he is good or bad, act for good or for bad, never both,

The character the whole story did bad or good acts because he thought that was the way of reaching or getting something in return, something he will try to reach or get on the end of the story, so at the end would be two possible ways:

-The main character was wrong the whole story and in the end he fail and doesn't get that special thing he wanted

-The main character was right the whole time about he thought and finally reach or get in return what he was looking for

Feel free to comment about, thanks!

Do you realize how ambiguous your question is?))))))))))

Since I kind of knowwhat you are talking about, I can tell you my opinion. First of all, there's no character who is absolutely good or bad, you cannot create one even if you deliberately try, because everything has two sides. Second, whether he is right or wrong doesn't depend on whether he is good or bad.

That whole concept seems too one-dimensional for me.

Why are those options the only ones available? How about:

    - the character was wrong the whole story and nonetheless he still got what he wanted; or

    - the character was right the whole story and finally he gets nothing or dies.

Or maybe noone was right. Or maybe there is no right or wrong and it all should be left on the reader's perception.

Suppose a character does despicable acts trying to defend his homeland. At the end maybe his homeland is safe but he's changed forever by the deeds he had to perform; he sacrificed his soul for his country. Or maybe at the end his homeland falls after all and his sacrifice was for nothing; he dies, lamenting his lost soul.

I think one can create en entirely character good or bad, but that is something extreme, maybe some characters are more good than other good characters and about evil the same,

About Second, imagine a character who have a theory of something, this character what is evil (or good) his main concept  is reaching something by evil acts and corrupted ways (or by good and "moral ways") believes the only way to get what he wants is doing that kind of things, because his theory is based on act as evil (or good) , he thinks that is the way to reach what he wants, something big and ambitious, what could help him (If he is evil) or help others (If he is good), some kind of fanatic or zealot, but its about his theory

Anything that is good for one is evil for other, and vice versa.

Whatever theory he has he can be right or wrong regardless of whether he is good or evil.

Hello! Overhate, this: "Or maybe noone was right. Or maybe there is no right or wrong and it all should be left on the reader's perception"

This is interesting, I think the bests writes or art are the ones what makes the reader have his own conclusions and make him think, but I'm planning to make a conclusion in the end, other things I'm going to leaves as own interpretation,
The main character will change, of course that is a way to write stories, in abstract a character must have to go from A to B (and C, D, and more) and along the way he must should be different from where he started

    Thanks for your opinion!

Thinking about, I think I will not take everything of this on my story, just a part and also I think a better end is more interesting when makes others have his own conclusions and thinks
