Hunterborn also gives variable drops based on skinning and harvesting experience, and quality of hunting knife used. If you don't know how to skin, you can still take the time to try and just hope you don't end up ruining the pelt! ;)

Question: Do you use actual backpacks in game? In my case I neglect them, because they blend with cloaks, weapons and quivers. Is there any way to be able to wear bow, arrows and a backpack without looking like Yog Sothoth?

Frostfall moves quivers, shields, etc. with its backpacks anyway, doesn't it? Plus, Frostfall backpacks adjust what's hanging from them dynamically based on whether or not you're carrying requisite camping supplies. :D

My inventory exiting Helgen:
Weapons: 50x iron arrow, iron dagger, 2x iron mace, iron war axe, 2x long bow
Apparel: Footwraps, Imperial light boots, Imperial light bracers, iron helmet, novice hood, novice robes, roughspun tunic, studded Imperial armor
Potions: 4x frostbite venom, potion of health, 7x potion of minor healing, 3x potion of minor magicka
Food: 2x alto wine, Black-Briar mead, bread, green apple, red apple, 3x tomato
Ingredients: All the Things, stuffed into the novice robe satchel
Books: Spell tome: Sparks, for later reading in a safe place
Misc: Bear pelt, bucket, cast iron pot (both varieties), garnet, 135x gold, 5x lockpick, tankard, wooden bowl, wooden ladle
This is fun so far! I still need to hunt down eating utensils and get a woodcutter axe and pickaxe once I've sold some 1H weapons. Gerdur's house should contain the rest of my provisions. I'm also ignoring the shiv rule, because blech for going all the way to Markarth before I pick any locks in the tutorial/newb dungeons.

It's not like you have a TM pocket in your backpack, so in terms of packing, here is what i've figured out:
1-Horses increase amount of storage space. You can i.e. "put" armor and spare weapons in saddle bags. This means that you have access o them only while near horse. Yes, they still remain in your inventory. Use imagination.
2-Drag Patsy around. It does not increase your carry weight, since follower needs supplies too. Just give them rarely used parts of equipment and food. Just to feel ligher.
3-Slot juggle. Items stored in backpacks share the same space. So you can sacrifice provision or scroll space for sake of items you actually use. The key is to maintain spatial proportions i.e: 1 food slot = potion slot = 2 soul gem slots= 1/2 book slot = 10 lockpick slots = 1 scroll slot = 2 ingredient slots.
4-Conjurers don't play by the rules. We can conjure up most of the gear. Deal with it.
My character is a mage using alchemy and low level enchanting, here is my load out:
1 dagger
1 one handed weapon
1 mortar and pestle (for emergency potion making)
1 staff
1 set of spare clothes.
8-9 pieces of food and drinks (In my case apple pie)
10 potions. This is the amount of potions in small phials. Large ones take twice as much place. By large I mean strong restoring potions.
20 lockpics,
Up to 20 ingridients. Dried herbs use half of the "slot",
1-3 Books, to study in a spare time. Can be spell tomes.
Up to 15 soul gems. Greater and grand take two soul gem "slots". Azura's star takes 3 slots.
3 pieces of survival gear.
5 scrolls
