Tales Of a Shadowscale: Prologue

  • June 19, 2016

The following account was published after the discovery of a small black journal, bearing the symbol of The Black Hand, was made in the ruins of the Falkreath Dark Brotherhood sanctuary. It is believed to be the story of an Argonian assassin that once resided there, and his journey to restore the Dark Brotherhoods reputation. It is unknown whether or not this assassin survived the attack on the sanctuary, however, many speculate that this particular assassin became the Listener to the Night Mother and helped save the sinister group of assassins from falling.

Those born under the sign of the Shadow in Black Marsh, are presented to the Dark Brotherhood at birth, and trained in the arts of stealth and assassination. They are known as Shadowscales, and act with complete immunity in there homeland, often serving the King of Argonia as personal bodyguards or eliminating threats and ending large conflicts without major bloodshed. A Shadowscale that lives to come of age, is accepted into the Brotherhood as family, I am one such Shadowscale. My name is Viseeth, and I have spent the last 3 years serving the An-Xileel, carrying out assassinations on high profile targets they see as a threats. My order has become extinct, to my knowledge, there is only one other Shadowscale that remains alive, residing somewhere in Skyrim.

The Brotherhood is on the verge of collapse, sanctuaries all over Tamriel have fallen, even the Night Mothers crypt was destroyed! The Listener has been killed and our dark matrons voice goes unheard. I will not stand by as the Brotherhood and the Shadowscales fade away into history, a tale to be told for the generations to come. I will leave my beloved homeland, trek to the icy north and save the Brotherhood from disappearing forever. I have never been one for writing, but should I fail in my endeavour, this journal will contain everything my life was dedicated to, what I was born for, and the last moments of The Dark Brotherhood should we fall.

As a TOC this does look good Viseeth. You'll have a few chapters up soon enough.
