Quick Early Game Leveling and More in F:NV

  • May 6, 2016

Welcome to my first Fallout Tips and Tricks Showcase. I hope to turn this into a semi-regular series about ways to exploit the game for personal gain. This will cover any and all mainstream Fallout games. For the first installment, I’ll be covering a little-known but extremely useful trick in Fallout: New Vegas. With this exploit, you can A) gain a few levels extremely quickly in the early game, B) get an unlimited source of 9mm ammo, C) get tons and tons of leather armor that you can sell, and D) theoretically get unlimited caps by selling the aforementioned leather armor and ammo to venders. All you need to be able to complete this exploit is either a 25 in Barter or Speech.

To begin this exploit, you’ll need to start the quest Run Goodsprings Run. Then kill Ringo. Continue the quest until you are tasked to shake Chet down with supplies. When you get to Chet, choose either the Barter or Speech check. Once you’ve succeeded, you’ll be rewarded with 30 9mm bullets and a piece of leather armor. However, you can repeat this speech check as many times as you like. That’s all there is to it. Complete this as many times as you want to to achieve the desired effects.

Now, let's get a little bit more in depth. Leather armor is worth a whopping 160 caps each. That means that, if we do this 20 times, we can theoretically make around 2700-3200 caps. We can also get 600 rounds of 9mm ammo and 500xp. If we add in the Swift Learner perk, we're suddenly getting 660 xp in about 2-3 minutes of work! This is a great way to pick up some perks early game, as well as caps to buy better weapons, armor, or entry into The Strip.

There you have it folks, the first part of my Fallout Tips and Tricks Series. Hope you enjoyed!
