In your experience what level do these attacks begin?
Also, can I prevent the attacks by not levelling up when I'm told to e.g sit at level 4 until I'm ready to play dawnguard.

In my experience, I don't see these random vampire attacks until I get approached by Durak or overhear guard dialogue about the Dawnguard at level 10. So you could theoretically sit at level nine until you're ready to play Dawnguard, and you wouldn't have the vampire attacks.

May I ask why you don't want them to attack randomly, even if you're not going to do Dawnguard right away?

As part of my roleplaying, she is not ready for vampires, I like to keep things simple in the beginning. I was attacked by death hounds at level 6 on my way to whiterun in a previous game, they made short work if me.

Bummer. The only other suggestion I would have is to uninstall Dawnguard and wait to install it when you're ready, which you can do on PC, but I don't know if you can do it on Xbox.

They spawn mainly at night at level 9-10... But for me it doesn't matter what time...

Vampires will start ambushing the holds at level 7. Since I have DLC I tend to limit my level to 6 until I've really gotten situated then level all at once when I feel confident enough to take on the vampire menace. If I'm lucky enough I get a visit from both Vampire and Cult priests and they tend to wipe each other out.

    Vampire attacks never bothered me.
Guards can kill them in 3/4 hits anyway.

They usually star at level 7 or 8 for me but get really bad at 10-11

I too was destroyed by a pair of death hounds around 6th level near Whiterun. My solution: I do not travel at night until my character is around 10th level.

The first one I saw on my current playthrough was at level 9, at night.

They are said to start at level 7 or 8. Saw on wiki. But definitely level 10 as that is when Dawnguar "starts". Though it can be started at level 1 by walking to the fort...
