Leyra the Liar

  • A taste of my writing, a typical encounter with Leyra:

The sound was an intuition that only the Falmer posses in their dark depths, with the Charus as company and protection.  Greymor wore the Charus Chitin in heavy layers over his ageing skin, his other hand free for casting and healing. It was heavy, there was something in the distance but he couldn't make out the form from the shuffling of stones... This one was quite, too quite. You see, they don’t, the reality of the Falmer darkness is that simple and their tragic history tells a darker tale, but that is a tale for another day (or dark?). That day (or night... Nobody knows) Chillwind Depths had an intruder and Greymor would not let them leave alive. Silence... Come closer curious one Greymor thought, this creature has time for you, intimate time, brutal time, with friends for company. His two Falmer fighters were hidden in the depths on either side of the path he guarded. Greymor guarded a bridge that led over the Charus Hive, the only way past was through him. Shuffle, crunch! That sound again! Greymor sensed his intruder approaching the bridge by sensing the changing glow of the mushrooms as it crept over them. Something curious, a sound Greymor didn't recognise, it sounded like something was being stretched to the point of breaking. Greymor focussed on the sound, building an image in his mind and raised his hand to strike when...

Leyra’s arrow stuck hard taking off the Falmer’s ear, he was half blind! Now was the time to strike when suddenly the Falmer was surrounded in a magical glow. Healing spell, Gods below this would not be easy! Leyra fired two more shots in quick succession before sprinting back down the corridor. Panting she dived behind a rock as the fireball blazed past almost singeing her brunette hair. Leyra peered around the rock and saw three sets of eyes glowing back (but only five ears she thought smugly). Understanding her surroundings and the current advantage, Leyra took a deep breath, dived out from the rock and Shouted. The effect was immediate and the cave walls shook as the Falmer was blown backwards now unable to heal, but this was not Leyra’s immediate concern. She rolled to the side, facing the first Falmer flanking her with its bow, lunged forward and placed her dagger in its throat. The blood sprayed but Leyra was already moving (without much time before the affect of the Shout wore off) and dodging another arrow she brought out her shield to block the next. As she ran forward Leyra moved with such fluidity and accuracy it was as if time itself obeyed her, the air parted as raised the Dawnbreaker and sliced across the face of the second Falmer. She heard it before she felt it, the air sucked from behind her, a fireball! She moved just in time but still with the natural skill and stamina that only the Redguards are trained in. Turning and brining up her sword at the same time, she managed to strike the magical Falmer disrupting its spell casting for a split second. It was enough; Leyra struck out with her shield then dropped it, staggering the blind creature and pulling out her dagger at the same time. As the creature tried to recover Leyra took off its hand, Blood spilled as she turned in her warrior’s dance and the Dawnbreaker lit the cavern walls; the magical Falmer ushered no breath when Leyra sliced off its head.

The idea is that this is based on my last gaming session and the most exciting encounter I had. The end of Chillwind Depths is particularly hard because a Falmer Mage blocks your path while two Falmer soldiers flank you when you attack, but you can't sneak kill them because they don't appear until you attack! It took me about 5 attempts but in the end this story shows how I managed it by divide and conquer.

If you were paying attention, Leyra is a Redguard warrior wielding a bow and arrow, sword and shield, daggers and the Dawnbreaker. Her combat skills are Block, One-Handed, Sneak, Alchemy, Archery and Light Armour. I haven't made a specific character build yet because her back story needs more understanding on my part, to provide more intrigue on your part.

I plan to write a blog post once a week or once bi-weekly at the latest, based on turning my latest session into a story. I'm using the Elder Scrolls Lore as my basis for the story because I'm not yet well practiced in fantasy world building. I've noticed a few spelling mistakes, this site is American and I'm English, so for certain words we use 's' instead of 'z' and 'c' instead of 's'.

I'm aware of the length of this post and that my style is a mix of role-play and story telling. Therefore is it best for me to transfer this to the Story Corner group? I'd prefer to just post on here as that group seems to require an already written story were as what I'll be writing is based off a role-play gaming style.

Who is Leyra? Why is she a liar and what does she lie about? I don't know yet but I have my ideas. I plan to add more to these blog post, such as why was she in the cave? How did she encounter it? Was she completing a quest or just roaming? How does she interact people? And what twists will appear in her story... Any comments welcome.

    Thank you for reading,

I heartily enjoyed your story. I found it easy to picture the scene as you described details that appealed each of my scenes.
I am also glad that you mentioned that you will answer all of those question in the future because it hooks me as a reader ...  more
