The Massacre at Fort Greymoor

  • Morndas, 25th of Last Seed

A travelling merchant stopped me on my regular patrol through the city. He hadn't stepped three paces through the gate before he was shouting towards me. The man was ragged and muddy from travel, and could barely speak between sucking wind. I never believe half the things those travelling fiends say, but thank the Nines I listened to him.

The man could hardly contain himself, started screaming that Fort Greymoor was ankle deep in blood and bodies, so much that he saw it from the road. A crowd formed around us fast, their faces were taut with concern, and fear. I grabbed him by his dirty cloak and hauled him into the barracks when Mina began to cry. Ive always had a soft spot in my heart for that little one.

After the man calmed himself, he told me this

"I've never seen such a horrible sight. Even when I was in the legion, patrolling the roads. We stumbled into a few bodies that were mauled by animals or killed by thieves, even chased down a Necromancer to his lair. But Stendarr keep me, nothing could have prepared me for that.

Like I said, I was travelling down the west road here to Whiterun. Many times I've passed by that Fort, people tell me there were bandits holed up in its bowels but they never bothered me. Likely because I travel during the day. They were right, there were bandits, at least 20 of them. But they're all dead now. Torn to pieces and hanging from from the ramparts like curtains of flesh and bone. I've never seen so much blood, even the gates are red with it. What in Oblivion could have done such a thing?"

I was as dumbfound as him. No one likes a bandit or a thief, but the ones in Fort Greymoor never bothered the city much. I had to see it with my own eyes.

Belan volunteered to come with me. He always was a curious one, and could easily handle himself in a fight if it came to it. I didnt want to believe the merchants tale, but there was a sound of truth in it, and it is my duty to Whiterun and the Jarl to ensure the safety of this city.

What we saw wasnt done by any man. It couldnt have been. The merchant was right, we saw the bodies and the blood on the gates from the road. Five bodies hung from the walls, and two at the gate, but im not certain if it was two, it could have been one poor bastard spread out like paste.

My boots were red before I even got in the keep. Belan vomited from the smell. By Talos, the smell. Ill never forget that smell.

Three bodies lay near the door, all of them headless, one of them was missing an arm. We found it half way up the steps shredded like pulled pork.

Every way I turned there was a corpse or a piece of one. I counted ten past the door, Belan says there were fifteen, it was hard to tell at times. In the master chamber we found one whole body, with a steel ax buried in his neck. Its a guess, but it looks as if he was hiding in the wardrobe before he was drug out and nearly beheaded. In the wardrobe I found a note.

"We've fallen back to the Keep and barricaded the door. But it wont hold long, nothing can stop that monster. He already killed Crathus and Groh'shan, our best orcs. I knew I should have left yesterday when Cassius disappeared. Hes using some kind of magic, but they're not any spells ive seen before. His words shred steel and bone, and he moves too fast to be just a man. He's in the keep, I heard the door shatter from here. I can hear them dying, they're all dying. He'll find me in here soon, the only way out is past him. What Daedra loosed this thing on us? Hes coming. By the nines if someone finds this, tell"

The rest of the writing was ruined by blood.

It was clear. Whoever did this was trained in the way of the voice, like Ulfric Stormcloak. And the only men in Skyrim who know the way of the voice and can teach it are the Greybeards. Why would they teach the way of the voice to man who would do such a thing? Surely they could see something evil in his heart, or maybe they have truly forsaken us.  Either way, I will find out. If they are making monsters of men, they must be stopped. No man should have this kind of power.

I don't know what to believe after seeing Fort Greymoor. Nothing makes sense. What I do know is that Whiterun could be in danger, and I must tell the Jarl.

Dude you're a brilliant writer! Very good, and I'll certainly be following. A few punctuation and grammar issues here and there, but nothing major. Great job!
