Mage Love

  • I've seen a lot of info on armor (mostly heavy) but I haven't heard a thing about robes/clothing. Anyone have any thoughts? Do you think they will allow you to craft robes (enchanting perhaps?) I also haven't heard what effect, if any, wearing armor will have on your spell effectiveness. If the pattern keeps up, there might not be a hit to casting while armored. In Morrowind, with armor on and poor skill in it, you could fail a cast completely. In Oblivion, you could still cast decked out in Daedric but only lose 15-20% effectiveness, never failing.

Oblivion had very few robes in relation to light/heavy armor. I can maybe think of 10-12, and most of those were only recolors, maybe a belt added on or some extra color on the sleeves.

The alchemy crafting station screenshot shows a pretty nice looking robe and I've seen a few others here and there. They have belts, items on the belt, hood, light shoulder armor, etc, so that is encouraging.

Any other magic inclinded people interested in some fancy robes, or is everyone going to pass those up for the armors?

Hey guys, I saw some leaked footage, and, while I'm not going to spoil anything besides a minor detail on some mage armor, if you don't want to have it spoiled, stop reading :D OKAY, first off, mage robes DO count under light armor, which is a plus :D Als...  more

I would agree with pretty much everything said. Robes in the last elder scrolls games were certainly lacking in diversity. What does concern me however is the fact that robes don't fall under any skill, there is no contribution to leveling up. In Oblivion...  more

I did see something that appeared to be a large piece of animal leather stretched out in one of the Skyrim videos Bethesda released. I think it was the "Making of" one. Which makes me think that would have to do with Light Armor, so maybe they have someth...  more

How cool would it be for robes to get its own "crafting bench".  The potions get their chemistry set, the armor gets its forge - it only seems right that you would need some kind of cloth spindle or weaving apparatus.  It would also be great if they had d...  more

I don't know if that is the case because smithing uses metal. Just saying although the magic bow we sall a wizard use might fall under that category, but then there is the material needed to smith it so I have no idea what the case is with that. I know we...  more

I just noticed in the Smithing blog that Arcane Blacksmith is one of the perks, I'm going to guess that is either for robes, hoods or staves, or all of it. Getting too excited now.

I noticed that most of the robes I've seen have built in enchantments that increase a magic skill, that's why I'm hoping enchanting has the robes, shoes, hoods, maybe even rings and necklaces. It doesn't make sense that mages wouldn't be allowed to craft ...  more
