The Adventures of Cyrelas: Part One

  • Chapter One: A Darkened Start

Life was harsh for my family in Morrowind. My father, a loving blacksmith who took pride in everyweapon he forged, and put his heart into every piece of armor he crafted. My mother, a kind hearted healer who could cure any and all illnesses and could save even the cursed from death. My father often spoke of his father’s tales of the Pit Fighters of Windhelm and the Vampire Hunters, The Dawnguard. His father even met and fought with the Dovahkiin. He also told tales of Dragons returning to Skyrim and Vampires alike. My mother hated when he did that because she feared that one day it might hold true.

I left my family when they had decided to move back home to their family and friends in High Rock. I left with my grandfather’s most prized possession, his Elder Scroll. I traveled all over Tamriel, traded with the Khajiit of Elsweyr, hunted with the Bosmer of Valenwood, visited my Breton-folk of High Rock, mined with the Orsimer of the Dragontail Mountains, studied with the Altmer of the Summerset Isles, learned the art of stealth with the Argonians of Black Marsh, trained with the Redguard warriors of Hammerfell and  finally ventured to Cyrodil so I could know what was truly on my grandfather’s scroll.

I found the Moth Priests who were fabled to read the Elder Scrolls and they had me enter with praise because of their opportunity. I was taken into a sealed of chamber and was told to not make a sound as the Priest read the scroll. He began. An almost blinding light emitted from the scroll  and he read: “y... you a..a wer...” He began to faint...” And you.. your th.. the Dov...” He collapsed as others ran in. “You killed him?!” They accused me. As I ran from the guards, completely disregarding my scroll and heard them yell: “Get this to the Greybeards in High Hrothgar. “ I knew of the mountains from my grandfather’s tales and  I knew that I was heading to Skyrim.

I traveled far into the mountains of Skyrim facing cold winds and brutal beasts. And then the icing on the sweet roll , I was attacked by bandits. I killed one, wounded two and then… I blacked out… I woke up in an old cavern when I was forced to make a decision. Jump down a hole and explore the cavern or run away like a scared milk drinker. Let me tell you, I’ am no Nord , but I’ am not a milk drinker either I took the jump and fell into a deep pool of water, I grabbed some coins that were lying around and past through the ancient door to only be engaged by undead.

Draugr they’re called, and nasty creatures too. They cornered me to the pool in which I  had fallen, and beat the first one down with my iron mace. They second one however, chilled me to the bone as I bashed in his skull. I walked through the damp passage, knocking over dozens of mushrooms and found four Nordic symbols. Reading them from left to right they were Bird, Dolphin, Snake, Dolphin. I then found four three-sided pillars with each of the three symbols on the sides. I turned the pillars to the symbols in the order of which I saw them, walked through the puddle filled passage way, pulled the lever and  the heavy gate was lifted.

By the time I entered the next room three more draugr were on me like a Moth Priest to an Elder Scroll. I slew those three easier than the last bunch. I looted a bow and several arrows and picked off one more. I found a dead one on an extremely well-crafted table and found a note where a plaque should be and it read: “Lord Geirmund, Battlemage to King Herald Magnus, keep thy vigil eternal. Serve now in death as you did in life. By these seals our realm preserve. From traitors three and there charm of strife.” I kept the note and unlocked the door with the key grasped within his hand and took three bottles of poison that was on the table.

As I walked I thought of my family back home in High Rock. Living with their family and friends… Something gleamed in the ground. I  kicked off the dirt and dust to find a Steel Battle Axe, It swung like a dream as I slew a draugr who tried to sneak up on me. Several eternities later I found a hallway of swinging axes and  an unlucky draugr who was sliced in half. I knew that I would have to time it perfectly if I was to continue to explore alive. I ran through the blades dodging every swing, and pulled the handle and chain to stop the trap. I short time later I found a lever to lower a bridge to continue on, and the draugr came running.

With my new axe I ripped its legs from its morbid body and I  knocked the corpse off the bridge where it fell to its death. I put good use to my mother’s knowledge of healing to heal my scrapes from the battle and tried to find and end to this Gods forsaken place. I entered a place similar to where I had fallen except there were three pillars emerging from the water. I walked to the main part of the cavern only to see artfully crafted tomb encircled by candles. I carefully came closer to get a better look and the top burst open. As the draugr emerged I drew my axe and  swung at air. He had already teleported to one of the pillars and rose two of its friends. They all knock arrows at me and I knew I could do nothing but shoot back. I managed to dodge the arrows as I fired at the main draugr.

I was down to one arrow and poisoned it with venom I had found and as it plunged into its decaying heart the others disappeared. I looted that “King Draugr” and took his Blackbow and Amulet. I also took the note that he had, and it read: “Be bound here Sidgis, murderer, betrayer. Condemned by your crimes against realm and lord. May your name and your deeds be forgotten forever and the charm which you bear be sealed by our word.” I understood then that the three draugr I faced were the three traitors and the amulet was the charm.
