Authority, Power and Influence In Skyrim

  • This is the thread to discuss all things about Authority, Power and Influence in Skyrim!

    I have always wanted to have power in a Elder Scrolls game. I mean in oblivion you are never in that position and never will be. I have been disappointed in Oblivion where even if you are the leader of the fighters guild nobody says anything. You are not recognised. The only place you where is when you become champion of Cyrodil and even then it was only a few snippets of dialogue.

    I would love to see this improved in Skyrim. We have had good news in which we were told we could become a Thane ,which is quite a high lordly position, and also get our own housecarle's, which are like servants. These are good signs and also it is interesting to note that both names originate from Anglo-Saxon Britian in the Dark ages when the Vikings were attacking.

    What sort of positions of power would you like and/or expect to see in Skyrim? Do you think this should influence the game in any way, dialogue or other?

    It's actually not whiterun, it's Windhelm. But I hope there will be some kind of negative reaction from the townsfolk. To give your actions some consequence.

    In the Legion and Stormcloak blog I have found that the objectives are to capture either Solitude or Whitrun. How do think this will change people's reaction to you and what do you think you will get for it?
    I hope it is something worthwhile, better...  more

    Rosaline makes a good point, in fact its one of the reasons why I always made sure I was either sneaking in through the front door in the dead of night, or else I was completely invisible and just walk in.  That way I hoped to stay off the guards radar.more

    Just thinking about this the other day actually :D I hope that you will be respected, or feared when competing a guild quest, or just joining one, like the Dark Brotherhood will make people afraid, and the Fighters guild will make people respect you. I al...  more

    @Valdemar
    I was thinking about that the other day, how everyone seems to know how your character is in a top secret guild of assassins, but if you think about it, it almost makes sense. First off, the armor that the DB issues almost screams "assassi...  more

    I was just playing Oblivion the other day with an Argonian assassin and I happened to talk to a guard at one of the taverns in the Imperial City.  He furrowed his brow at me and said something like, "I know a creature like you when I see one murderer.  Do...  more

    I believe that even small amounts of influence in Skyrim are going to have a much wider reaching effect than in Oblivion. For instance, lets say you're perhaps making a name for yourself while working for the Jarl of Whiterun. When entering other district...  more
