The Outsider Paralogue 1 - Lucius

  • Alone…

Better like this anyways, this is a road that I have to walk with none by my side.

My horse died a few hours ago, I needed him to keep myself from…

Oh look, a cave, it’s going to start raining soon, I better seek refuge, I’m so tired.

I arrived as soon as the first droplets started to fall, without paying any mind to the corpses around me. One was sitting against a wall, his gut was tore open, his intestines cascading down and half eaten, he seemed like a hunter, he also seemed to be the freshest corpse around. I like his spot.

I put my hands on his shoulders and threw him aside, much better. Sitting down next to my new friend I rested my head on the wall, I felt cold… oh, who am I kidding, I feel nothing…

I pulled my hood further down my face, covering my eyes and leaving me in darkness, I was fast to sleep.

I woke up some time later; I felt a hot breath in my face, followed by a wet tongue going up and down against it. I slowly looked up to see a bear, now startled and backing away quickly, of course, nobody expects corpses to move now do they?

The bear quickly went from startled to angry, he roared and clawed at the floor, something that would send any man into blood chilling despair, but I could care less, I wish he just left me here, to sleep, to rest, so tired…

He roared again, and cautiously started to approach, no, please don’t, let me sleep, don’t wake Him up…

The bear now rushed to me, ready to tear me apart with his claws, ready to turn me back into a corpse…

But he didn’t, because He woke up…

I felt my right eye tingle; it changed, changed from its deep black abyss to the red of blood. A moment later I regained my consciousness, the bear now laid at my feet, its skull imploded, looking like it had been sucked in from the inside…

How sad, he did not need to die, He did not have to kill him…

But now I can rest, just let me sleep…

    Steps…

    Man steps…

Quiet, the bear would not be able to hear them, but I did, and I saw him…

A boy, a young hunter, bow in hand, arrow drawn, ready to skewer his prey.

He came closer; I doubt he could understand the scene he was seeing. He saw a bear, his head crushed beyond recognition, and looking directly at the animal, a corpse.

    Don’t come closer.

I was so tired, I could not muster the strength to tell him that.

So he came, and He waited for him…

The boy’s intentions, I know not. Maybe he wanted to help, to see if I was the one who killed the bear, to see if I was still alive, to help me. But as he would come closer he would feel no pulse, then his intention would change, he would seek to rob the body of the traveler who killed the bear, and He would not like that…

The boy came closer, closer, closer…

When he was so close that I was able to feel his breath, hear his heart beating, His hand shot up, skewering the boy’s chest, stopping only when He reached his heart, his still living, still beating heart…

The boy lived no more, but I did.

I was no longer tired, no longer wanting to sleep, no longer wanting to stop.

I had a long road ahead of me, and thanks to Him I regained that much needed strength...

He was heading towards his estate to get Ganlon and Ricard, why is he on his own now, well, I'll let those two explain in the next chapter. and why he references He as He and not It is because there is something almost fraternal between them

Something different but i like it. Found myself getting confused with the amount of 'He' being used, maybe 'it' for the demon sub conscious thingy would work better? Good chapter, I'm forgetting so remind me why's Shade on his own in a cave, i thought he ...  more
