Glory of the Wolf-Heart Ch 3 - Blessing of Mara

  • Einar left Falkreath on the road up toward Helgens way.  According to Solaf, the purple mountain flowers were just aboce the treeline where the snaw just began laying in thick.  He made his way up through the dense forest that covered much of Skyrims southern border, and began his ascent.  When he broke the treeline, he was met by hundreds of patches of the purest purple flowers he had ever seen, more beautiful than a flawless amethyst.  Einar picked quite a few and mixed in the deathbell that Solaf had given him.  It truly was a gorgeous mix.

On his descent he decided it would be a good idea to bathe, remove the stink of animal flesh and hard work from his person.  He remembered passing a lake on the way up the mountain, that would be a good place to rest a bit and clean up.

Einar reached the pool of water and, for the first time in years, took the time to look at his reflection in the lake.  His hair had become ragged but retained its black color, the scars on his face from the old Alpha had healed well but would never go away, the eye that was damaged had gone completely white now.  The battles and ordeals he had been through hadn't really taken a toll on him, fortunately but he did look a little aged and grizzled.  When he emerged from the lake, he felt rejuvenated, he gathered up his gear and picked up the flowers before moving on towards Eiras home.

Einar walked down the trail that lead to the farm admiring the serene view.  A couple deer grazing, butterflies pollinating, and foxes emerging from their holes mad up a beautiful scene.  Einar was confused by the emotions in his head, all he had known was blood and death but now, he had grown soft in his absensce from war.  The trail opened and there sat the farmhouse and field with many different vegetables growing.  A man was working the mill, probably her father, while a woman hung out some clothing to dry, her mother by the look of her, but Eira was not in immediate view.

The man caught sight of Einar and began to walk toward him.

"Can I help you lad?" he asked with a puzzled but surprised look on his face.  Einar stopped just in front of the man.

"I was here looking for Eira.  Solaf from Falkreath told me she was here."

"Aye she is but what business do you have with her?" he asked

"I don't mean to intrude but I picked these for her and wanted to give them to her," Einar presented the flowers to Eiras father, "I'm not going to lie to you sera, I find Eira attractive and would like to call on her but, all I've known is war and battle.  I served with the Legion and retook Cyrodil.  If that is some one you don't want Eira with I'll leave but I am an accomplished hunter and can provide and protect her."

Eiras father look Einar over then his face turned from stern to a smirk, "Lad, I like your honesty.  My Eira has spoken about you to us.  A sign from Mara indeed.  I would be delighted if you joined us for dinner...."

    "Einar," he said.

"I'm Kelbjorn, this is my wife Helena.  Eiras inside, come on in and take a seat.  Dinner will be ready soon."

Einar followed Kelbjorn inside.  Eira was working the cooking pot, she turned around to greet her parents and upon seeing Einar, blushed and turned away.  He caught a glimpse of her face and the redness from her cheeks accented her gorgeous eyes.  He took a seat and Helena brought him some bread.  Eira finished her cooking and brought the pot over to the table.  She filled up four bowls and passed them around blushing again when she handed Einar his.  The family took their seats and began dinner.

After dinner, Kelbjorn and Helena went upstairs and left Eira and Einar downstairs to clean up.  Einar grabbed the flowers he had picked for her and presented them.  Eiras face lit up like the auroras in Skyrims night sky.

"These are gorgeous.  I have never seen such purple in my life.  Where in Oblivion did you find these?"

"That's a secret," Einar retorted, "If I told you then I'd never be able to get you more."

Einar spent several days with Eiras family and eventually married her.  They lived on the farm with Kelbjorn and Helena while Einar worked on building their own house down by the lakefront.  Einar was happy and not because he had made a fresh kill but because he had met a women who loved him.  Einar wasn't sure who Mara was but her blessings had to be on him now.
