Dragon Combat

  • So, I've been watching some of the new footage being released and I think the combat between the summoned dragon and hostile dragons looks pretty impresssive. Strafing fireball runs, mid-air chases and, on the ground, using those massive spiked tails as clubs.

So, my question is, what do you think of the combat between dragons and NPCs that we've been shown so far? What do you expect from, for example, a dragon attacking a town? Would you like to see a disorderly rush, like in the live-action trailer, or something more akin to the defense of Laketown in The Hobbit by Bard and the town guards?

Hmmmmm, that's a good point Paul. Perhaps the Radiant system now allows for non-essential NPCs to travel from zone to zone? So, for example, a repair/rescue team might be sent from the nearest city and they would repopulate the town over time?

I've been wondering about something that Jay said... namely, what will happen if a Dragon attacks a small settlement and pretty well wipes out the population?
I assume that quest NPCs are set to 'essential' and will simply fall unconscious, but unle...  more

To add another question: Previews have stated that creatures like wolves and bears can be seen hunting and killing prey. Do you think we'll be able to see dragons preying on mammoths, giants and other large creatures?

Ugh, I really can't imagine how we will be able to handle a dragon with a simple arrow. (At least at the beginning). Dragons are huge and supposed to have crocodile-like skin, so dense. I think we will have some heavy time fighting them. Also if a dragon ...  more

Yea idk excatly it would be quite hard to hurt a dragon if you think about like in the movie Pearl Harbor when they try to shot down planes with BAR's and in the movie Reign of Fire dragons are not easy to catch with bullets let alone trying to hit one wi...  more

I'd like to see how this is handled, too.  I imagine that non-combatants, like townsfolk, will simply run.  But in Oblivion even a lowly farmer will whip out a dagger from nowhere and defend himself.
I'm also wondering if NPC town guards are repleni...  more

If a dragon attacks a town, most will run. Only the most disciplined and skilled will stick around. Archers and mages will be the most effective, but these will also probably run if the dragon heads in their direction. Some direct fire artillery weapons/c...  more
