A Bard's Tale: It's a cruel and very cold world

  • We return to the story of our Bard, it begins with tragedy and chaos...

Ashi looks around not knowing what to think or to do. He thinks to himself: I could try to escape but that would be suicide, there are guards in all directions.

"Hey you, Imperial, why are you here?"

Ashi looks to the voice and looks at a Stormcloak soldier with a deep accent.

"Well, I got caught in bed with a nobleman's daughter and a satchel full of trophys." Ashi responds.

"Not very smart. Got caught did you?" The Stormcloak says.

"Well, I usually do get away with it. How was I supposed to know she was already married and all the things I stole were her dowry. Just a few odds and ends...golden candelabra, golden diamond studded circlet, a wedding dress created by Thalmor, and an entire case full of diamonds and jewelry. I probably would have gotten away if the wedding dress that was used to wrap up the jewelry box didn't get caught on some stone and the box fell out of my bag...Jewels fell everywhere and a sudden commotion exploded as townfolk like a wave of greed started fighting each other over the precious gems."

The Nord just looks at Ashi stupified.

He continues, "So I got caught because every Imperial guard in the city decided to come together to quell the riot and the Commander ordered them to arrest me. Well, what do you do when a handful of guards have bows and crossbows aimed at you. I feel my life is still valuable these days."

The Nord shakes his head in pity, "Sounds like you're one unlucky man. You know where we're going right? Straight to the chopping block."

Ashi stares straight at him, "Oh...oops. Maybe I shouldn't have broken out of prison then."

    "You did what?"

"I picked the lock of my cell and escaped...as well as aiding all of the other prisoners. They arrested me as I was scaling the wall."

"So how did you get here?" The Nord inquires.

"We'll apparently the Imperials couldn't quite keep me in a cell. Obviously. So they pushed me along and used me as labor until they informed this Talius fellow about me and my shenanigans. They picked you guys up soon after."

"Makes sense. Well, my name is Rolof. Nice to meet you."

"I am the great wizard, Ashi!" the Bard proudly exclaims in a complete lie.

"Wizard eh? Believe it when I see it."

The rest of the ride is consumed by silence as the caravan pulls into a town, the town of Helgen. Before they knew it everyone was being lined up for execution.

Ashi begins to look around awkwardly with his eyes, trying to think of an escape plan.

"You, you're next" The guard bellows out for the second individual to be decapitated.

A roar explodes into the distance and before the town knows it a Dragon appears and summons death and destruction with each swoop and roar.

Ashi looks around and lays down next to the body of an Imperial guard. He lays there for a moment before lifting his head up to access the situation. No one is paying attention to him.

The dragon flies back overhead and he immediately lays back down, feigning death.

Once he was sure of his safety, he began using the imperials sword on the ground to cut off his binds.

"Ah...free at last," Ashi proclaims to himself as he slowly gets to his feet and taking the dead imperials sword. He looks around and begins to sneak off around the chaos towards the other side of town.

Once there, the dragon seemed to be moving with a purpose. His carnage seems to be following the Prisoner who was about to be decapitated. Ashi notes this and moves into the keep for cover, finding a dead Imperial on the ground. He shrugs and begins to strip the man, hiding his body under a bed, and eventually dons his light armor.

"What army chooses to wear skirts..." He mutters to himself, adjusting his manhood. At that point Rolof and the Prisoner enter.

Immediately Rolof swings his axe at Ashi.

Ashi jumps backwards and onto the bed, squealing slightly. "-Ey! Rolof! I'm a friend. Ashi remember?"

Rolof stops and looks him up and down in disgust. "Why are you wearing that ridiculous armor, it doesn't even fit you."

"At least it's better than wearing prisoner rags. And at least my man-goods have a nice constant air supply."

Rolof laughs and then turns to the Prisoner, "We need to get going, at least Ashi can get us out of here safely if there are any more Imperials."

"Yes, we need to escape and hopefully the dragon wont get to us. We just need to keep moving." The Prisoner replies.

"Follow me, friends. I'll get us  out of here. Just...act...more prisoner-y...Like I have all control of the situation." Ashi says.

They travel through the keep and go further down towards the dungeon.

    "Halt!" An Imperial guard bellows.

"Soldier, get out of our way, we have to get these prisoner's out of here and bring them to justice through the means of order. Just because their is chaos, doesn't mean we have to lose control. Return to your posts, the rest of the Stormcloaks are on their way to get their brother's back." Ashi quickly responds.

The three Imperial guards have no idea what to think of the situation and just simply let them pass through.

That was the worst of it: not counting the spiders, more Imperials who didn't believe Ashi's lies, and a bear. Exciting adventure isn't it? Our three friends escaped from a underground cavern system and breathed their first air. Really really cold air.

"It's so damned cold." Ashi frankly states while shivering.

"I do not know how the Imperial army can wear these skirts and still remain warm."

"We'll find safety and warmth in Riverwood, it should be pretty close to here. We will also get you a change of clothes that actually fit."

Ashi tells exactly what happened, often emphasizing the cold of Skyrim. He looks back to Lauriel hearing strange things around him.

"Yes, I remember it as if it was yesterday. Cold. Really cold."

"I am not amused." Lauriel says.

Moaning can be heard with a slight echo all around the two.

    "What is that?" Ashi asks.

"It is your eventual fate after you tell me what I want to know. That Prisoner. Who is it?" Lauriel says.

"Oh, you know him quite well, or at least should. He's the Dragonborn."

    Silence follows the word, Dragonborn.

Another good chapter. i really like the way you have written this. It def feels like he is telling the tale himself. He comes across as quite the rascal.
